Heya all, want to start off by saying Ive read the couple stickies on hacking your PSP.

I should be good to go, just a few random / probably dumb questions I want to ask.

Im running 6.1 firmware atm on a psp 3000 so I plan on following the "6.20 PRO (permanent) installation." guide in Rydians sticky.

Ive got a 1GB sony memory stick pro duo that the psp came with (psp was $10 at a yard sale YAY lol)
Is that even worth using or should I just go ahead and pick up an 8gb, ive heard a lot about fakes. If I buy off Amazon will I generally be okay? What brand should I buy?

I believe there is nothing on the memory stick except for some save data for a game, will I need to format before hacking?

And, is there any harm in hacking the psp now (with the 1GB) if I have plans to buy a bigger memory stick in the next few days? Honestly I probably will get at least an 8GB (thats what my dsi xl uses) soon.

Will I need to then rehack the new memory stick, or will my psp have the hack encoded in already?
Not sure if the hack is stored on the memory stick or the psp itself.

Any info is appreciated, sorry for the 284 questions in a single posting. Thanks!

Yeah 1GB is sort of small, especially since PSP discs can hold up to 1.8GB. Most people suggest 8GB or 16GB for a few games and such.

As far as actual memory sticks, I got mine from places like Walmart and Newegg and stuff when they still stocked them. Amazon is a market/reseller like ebay nowadays, so you should pay attention that it's an actual Sony/Sandisk/whatever stick you're buying. IIRC "Mark 2" is the better kind people have found to actually give a speed boost.

Like that.

You won't need to format it before hacking.

And no, nothing is permanently tied to the memory stick, you can swap at any time and the PSP will still be hacked with the 6.20 perm patch.

Heya, thanks for a quick reply!

Yeah I see that I cant really buy these cards from any reputable store.

Did a little searching and sounds like I should completely just skip ebay.

Going to search around, though it sounds like I should look for a sandisk or sony brand.

I'd just go for a new sealed one from a place that's actually selling the cards directly.
Heya, believe I found a few good deals. I searched everywhere I could think of but some cheap prices. Reputable sites Ive bought from before. Ill share both in case anyone else was looking for these.

Going to go for the 16GB, especially after hearing some files could be 1.8 GB Ill need the space.

Im 99% sure that 16gb will work for my psp 3000. That should do it then?

My recommendation is to snipe (bid on the last second) on ebay if you have the time for it. I've seen many cards go for way cheaper such as http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Sony-Me...8?pt=US_Video_Game_Memory&hash=item3a832a3f72
Of course if you don't have time and you need the memory card NOW, then pick one up online or at your local store.

EDIT:
Or save a dollar thru amazon on your 16GB card
http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-Platinum-Memory-Stick-LMSPD16GBSBNA/dp/B002GQ4GJ2/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1375301306&sr=8-8&keywords=pro duo memory stick

Hrm the paranaoid in me makes me want to just avoid ebay, so Ill be sure im getting an authentic card.

But yeah when I first started looking I saw someone said that Lexar should be avoided for a psp, then decided after more searching that no one else really agreed with him. So by the time I started looking for lexar I forgot about Amazon, lol. Good news is I havent placed an order yet. And I know that with Amazon I am protected with A to Z claim if need be.

But.., I think Ill just go for this one instead: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007UIX06G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Not sure how it compares to the lexar one, but it's sold by Amazon and I believe there fastest model. Don't mind spending an extra few bucks since I got the psp so cheap anyways.

Lexar sticks have tended to screw up plugins in the past and have slower read/write speeds than Sandisks. Get a Sandisk Ultra II if you're concerned about speed. Get a Sandisk stick either way.

Hrm I think Ill just stick to the memory stick as opposed to an adapter.

Here is a good looking sandisk I found: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Flash-Memory-PRO-HG-SDMSPDH-016G/dp/B001DUFQHS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1375304493&sr=8-4&keywords=memory stick pro duo
Would have to buy from a random 3rd party seller though.

But it's easy to check whether or not its real, from what I gathered I just throw it in my PSP and check for a logo somewhere?

Now to find a good psp grip! Cant find any except for hong kong and expensive ones in usa, wouldnt want to pay more than $20 for one.

Got used to those on my DSI XL and 3DS XL lol.

Edit: Yeah after a bit more thought Im just going to go for that 16GB sony sold directly by amazon, would rather just get a real card that may be a little slower than have to worry about returning a fake card.

The price for that looks far too good to be true...and yes, you get your PSP to tell you whether it's Magic Gate supported. It can be faked but it's seldom done and therefore it makes a relatively decent way to check authenticity.

I am looking to get a psp 3000 invizimal blue refurbished from gamestop. I was wondering if anyone knew if the psp 3000 invizimal blue bundle originally came with OFW 6.20? Because I want to have a permanent hack on the psp. My understanding is as long as it had OFW 6.20 at one point in its life it can be done correct?

Why the fascination with permanent hacks? I use 6.60 PRO-C2 and just put my PSP in sleep mode. Even when it closes, with fast recovery it is cracked again in 5 secs... Seriously, just get to 6.60, no point in using older firmware just to make it "permanent".
