What was the hack....I don't get it...can someone explain

Yeah same here. Even I didn't get it. He did something with the Ninja thingy.

ninjapass is a flashcart

this video shows of it supposedly booting a rom
however there is no cart menu and its just boots the game which leads me to believe its just a flashcart sticker on a regular DS game cart

To put games?

the first ninjapass only had onboard memory, 64MB so you need to flash roms to it via that device

it was one of the first ds flash carts which is why I doubt it works with the 3DS as no regular DS carts worked on the DSi

Proof that the video is fake. If all the newer flashcarts don't work, it's impossible that an old flashcart will work.

EDIT: Watch the video in full screen and pause it at 0:06. You can clearly see that the sticker's been tampered.

I don't know which flashcart it is, but I suppose that if the flashcart content is 1:1 of an original cart, then it should work.

No menu, no rts, no homebrew, only one game, but it will work.

Here is a snapshot of the video where they load the menu.

What game is it?

If it's real that was expected, like for GBA flashcarts on the very first DS, now the only way to stop DS games backup from running on the 3DS will probably to issue a 3DS, without DS compatibility (like they did for the DSi with the GBA compatibility, the best way to shut tight an open door is to condemn it).

Just watched the video: Looks really legit, or they have a master at video editing.

Interesting, if it is possible to run on the 3DS without much effort (ie took only a few days), I'll probably mean that the DS(i) modes can be accessed like before.
