Hacking Question Firmware requirements for wireless gamepad?

So I went ahead and purchased a couple of GameCube style wireless controllers for my switch. They won't sync though as apparently they require 6.0+ fw. Is there any way around this or do I have to update my console in order to use these?

Console currently unbanned(airplane mode)
5.1FW
SX user

Still very new to the scene so I apologise if my question has already been addressed.

As you're on 5.1, update to 6.1 please.

Don't work with airplane mode. But should work with 5.1

Works on airplane mode but bluetooth should be on.
