There is, you just don't see it.There should be a tremendous difference between 4 and 9 (compare say IE4 vs IE9) but there isn't much of one at all.
A few under the hood improvements hardly warrents 5 major version jumps this year. To be fair, Chrome is even worse with version numbers. Maybe I'm too old school in caring that version numbers actually mean something instead of being a marketing gimmick.
