Hacking FINALLY!!! A Fix for The October 23d update!!!

One thing I just don't understand yet. Why is IOS16 required for all of this? I understand it still has the signing bug.
But what if you would extract a different IOS from a game disc. Let's say IOS36. An old, unupdated IOS that still has the signing bug and you install it using the wad manager. That should work, because that IOS is correctly signed.
Couldn't the wad manager then just use thát IOS from then on to install the incorrectly signed pirated wads?
I am also asking me!

No, because the update from Nintendo would prevent it. The update downloads IOS36 and gets rid of the trucha bug. IOS16 contains the bug, but was never installed in the first place. Therefore, WAD Manager could install IOS16, but not IOS36 because it was already installed and has the bug fix preventing it from being overwritten by the unsigned one.

Well in that way way it would make sense then. But what about this then? http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Remove_October_23_Update
One of the steps is to use wad manager to reinstall all the old unpatched IOS's, replacing the patched ones

Why IOS36 (or IOS35, default for homebrew) from SSBB update is unsigned ?
cIOS (all) are unsigned..ok..but IOS from Nintendo..

the ioses on game discs are properly signed. so why is it a problem to overwrite a existing ios with wadmanager. i would appreciate if tona or marcan could give some background info.

This tool will patch IOS15 to IOS16, so you can have it legally

Simply extract IOS15 from a game iso with WiiScrubber (i used the one in SSBB), extract all the files in the RAR and drag IOS15 on the bat file, it will do the patch and output ios16.wad

(For safety reasons, a sha1 check will be made on the resulting wad

)

I need IOS15-64-v257.wad, correct? I extracted that from Endless Ocean, dragged it into the BAT file and it tells me that it's not IOS15...

The people over at Wiibrew are trying to confuse you. Hell, reading that even confused me. Do yourself a favor and do not believe everything you read; especially on Wiibrew (regarding this update fix).

WiiBrew
It is possible to undo the "damage" caused if you made the mistake of updating on or after October 23.

This process will only work if you already installed cIOS rev03 or greater before updating.

The newest version of WAD Manager looks for cIOS on startup and, if detected, makes use of it. As a result of this, it is in fact possible to undo the changes made by the update, by following the steps below:

you need to have had installed cIOS before the update

No you do NOT. Stop confusing these poor people.
stop it. for the guide on wiibrew you need a cios installed before 23rd oct. update.

the guide linked in my sig does nothing else than installing a cios through a ios which would never be installed through a regular way.

and by the way wiibrew.org is the most reliable source of information regarding wii homebrew, but they don't support piracy and that's why people say that they want to confuse others. it's simply not true.

Are you a coder? BTW, I have looked at the code. I probably figured it out before anyone, but the credit does not go to me because I did not post the fix first. So, I know EXACTLY what is happening. Do you?

yes i do, buddy. stop flaming others. it's senseless. it's a useless argument. fact is that it's not possible to install properly signed ioses nor fakesigned ioses or other data (like wads) without ios16 or cios. team twizzers discovered some other security flaws and exploit like the one thy used to install hbc 9, but they didn't made that one or other public. so for the normal user those two ways are the only ways to go. period.

ACTUALLY I'M RIGHT... you need to read a little bit better before you jump down someone's throat... that was a quote from wiibrew itself

it was regarding the first "fix" to people with cIOS install because you can't use wad manager(the official build) without cIOS

THIS "fix" posted was for use of wad manager(Davi92's build) to work off of IOS16

just to clear things up furthermore i'm not "flaming" or arguing, i'm just trying to push the point of reading a bit more carefully and understanding that my post wasn't regarding this thread but a question asked in this thread

I really hate to be a bother, but I'm hitting an problem while trying to get this to work. I have installed IOS16 through WAD Manager 1.3 and cIOS fix through the specially compiled WAD manager. After this, I ran the IOS downgrader. Now, at this point, I assume that I'm supposed to run cIOS Downgrader; however, it doesn't appear in the Homebrew Channel, despite having it in the correct path (apps\Cios-Downgrader). However, the cIOS Installer from the 0.3 backup package did show up, so I tried that instead. It worked, but I still don't have a way to actually downgrade.

Can someone please show me the error I'm making?

Are you sure you rename the CIOS Downgrader.dol to boot.dol? the only step you are missing is the downgrade everything else you did it great.

It seems that there are slightly different versions around of IOS15. This made the patching fail if you didn't have the correct one, as Luriden reported.
I found three of these 'versions', 00000001.app is different in each one.
This version can handle all of them, please report here if you find others, and the iso you used.
