Hello all!
So a friend and I were discussing Final Fantasy VIII (As we often do) and we continue to agree on how much better the game could be if SE wouldn't have been 'experimenting' with new a new battle system.

The story is awesome. And I love the character development.

So it got me thinking: "Would it be possible to 'Revamp' the battle system?"
Basically, Don't make enemies scale, and being a higher level makes the game harder. Could we make it like any other Final Fantasy game?

My friend was also thinking about rewriting the script?

If we were to start this project, would anyone care to join us? We really only need coders.

Thanks all!
~Cheers :)

It's strange how I've never had issues with the battle system. for the inexperienced, most tend to abuse the gf's and it's even a plot driven interface later on. however the sheer amount of customizing EVERYTHING from yourself/enemies/your pay/your gfs/card game stuff... there becomes nothing you cannot manipulate for your own gain or challenge. in fact I prefer it over it's predecessors. Love it so much in fact I bought a pocket station from japan so I can play the mini game.

That being said if you want to make this you have my support but I'll probably never do more than test the end product .

Triple Triad.... online.

It depends on how many and what type of game hacks Final Fantasy VIII has in the community. Before FF7 got it's HD makeover, its had its audio and visuals significantly updated by hacks made by the fans.

considering that pretty much everyone eventually junctions death to their attacks, enemy levels really arent that much of a problem outside of boss encounters, tonberrys and those red dragons

No, no, no, no, no, no and NO! The story is awesome and you want to rewrite the script? How many other FF games can you think of that have spawned massive conspiracies over what's actually happening?(DO NOT READ THAT LINK IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME!) VIII is a fantastic game despite the flak it gets, with a fully realised world that feels more alive than many of the others in the series. The battle system with the draw mechanic is perfect to modify the challenge of the game and the scaling is a unique factor that makes VIII notable from the rest of the series. Don't believe me? Well try this save where i've spent HOURS AND HOURS breaking it at the beginning of the game (no cheats used...that's a legit grind) so you can do a no level run (which i proceeded to do after that save). Taking on the entire game without gaining a level but still powering up adds another dimension, and taking out Omega Weapon with characters at their starting levels is an immense feeling. (the save i made relies on the fact you can grind Seifer up to draw -aga magics for junctioning to no detrimental effect upon your other characters. Want to take out X-ATM092 for the first time? Go ahead and wipe the floor with it...)

VIII is a wonderful game with one of the better realised love stories (so much better than Aeris/Tifa/Cloud and Zidane/Garnet)...if you want gripes with a combat system then fix the laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag that IX has every time you enter a battle. So Sllllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww...

My apologies for the mis-communication, he doesn't want to entirely re write the story, I think he just wants to touch it up a bit. Not quite sure.
I've only played to disc 2, but you don't know how badly I want to click that link. And thanks for the save, I think I'll load that one up and actually complete the game.

Don't click it...it'll keep until you're done and you'll get more out of it (and the game) if you wait...although i'm betting you've already clicked.

If you do use my save remember CARD EVERYTHING! Carding gives you zero experience but you still get the AP. CARD EVERYTHING! CARD EVERYTHING! I managed to do this the entire game and no-one got any levels...remember Diablos has the no encounter ability so once you have him (and that ability) it becomes much easier to manage. (I may still have my save at the last save point somewhere). CARD EVERYTHING! NO ENCOUNTER! CARD EVERYTHING! NO ENCOUNTER!

Baha, awesome! I'm actually borrowing my psp to another friend at the moment. Though I may try and buy another one. I can't remember If I have VIII iso/cso but I can always rip my Ps1 copy.
And No. I haven't clicked the link ;D

I really liked the story and characters of VIII, the battle system, and even the junctioning. Different doesn't necessarily mean bad. Triple Triad on the other hand...that's probably this game's only negative for me. That all said, I don't think the game should be messed with, I think it should be held in a higher regard for the tech advances it showcased at the time and the other reasons I mentioned at the beginning of my reply.

I was a big fan of the character in VIII a well. The development is fantastic! In the first disc you watch Quistis go from being an almighty teacher to a small child who thinks she fucked everything up.
You watch Irvine go from a ladies man sharpshooter to a coward who can kill the antagonist because he's never killed anyone before.
IT'S AMAZING!!
