Hacking Final Fantasy VIII crash on Deep sea research center

I am attempting to play the deep sea research center, but when I attempt to enter the place (after landing) the game just freezes. I am playing on a PSP 3k, with no pops enabled. USA version with default game id.

Any ideas?

Freeze happened inside ragnarok, trying with cheats off and disc load speed normal.
