Some people here saying stuff like "try it" I think sky (as a programer) knows his stuff so pls don't fiddle with their work. And stuff being "greyed out" is not being "dynamic". It musn't even be the font, that changes it, it even can be just an overlay. Or the debug font has two different font "modes" (greyed out and dark letters, I don't know that but I think the point is clear here).

keep calm and read what they are typing, don't just stick to YOUR opinion, cause they do the work, suggestion are welcome but don't stick to busted suggestion pls ;). This would be annoying in the future (and would interfer with typing updates, and won't be seen cause of trash-typing, if u get what I mean ;)

What the fuck is wrong with you? All I'm doing is offering constructive feedback, and posting some evidence to support it - in opposition to blindly sticking my tongue up their arseholes, which seems to be the point you're trying to shove up my arsehole. Rather fervently.

Do you want this to be a quick and dirty patch, or do you want it to have the same standards and quality that was put behind the, say Mother 3 patch? Bouncing ideas off each other, concepts and suggestions is how that it is accomplished. Not blindly supporting each and every decision they make, and aggressively talking down on anyone else. As far as I'm concerned, I've already made a bigger contribution to this effort than you have, simply because I actually threw some ideas at them and supported them with a lil bit of evidence.

So sit down, zip up and let the grownups do the talking until the patch is finished for you to freely mooch.

For the record...yes, the font I posted has already proven itself dynamic (three different colors, and a lack of a stroke in one example to boot). If Sky can't figure out why, then I think we need to consult Truthkey as to how he did it. The more help, the better right?

We've tested out a few font options, and I think we've found a solution. We're not 100% decided, but we think we've got it.

But it's not the BBS font. Let me explain.

There are at two major font files in the game. There's one for cutscenes and one for NPC dialogue, quests, abilities in the battle HUD, character nametags in cutscenes, and a ton of other things. Multiple fonts often appear on-screen at the same time. One of these instances is in cutscenes, where the dialogue uses one font, while the nametag for the currently-speaking character uses another font. In this case, the BBS font would display the character's nametag, which clashes pretty heavily with the dialogue font. Another instance is in the battle HUD, like in the screen posted earlier. Lots of text of a few different fonts appears in this screen, including the status effects, which are actually images, and don't use the font files.

One of the guiding principles of this project is that we try to stick to the original intent of the game. We make sacrifices where necessary, but we try to be faithful to what the creators were trying to do. This of course applies to the translation, but also the graphics we have to change to be English-friendly. This includes the font.

That means the main reason we're deciding on a new font is because we're trying to adhere to the look of the original font while eliminating the things that made the original font less than ideal, such as size, kerning, and general readablity. And we think we've achieved that, or at least improved upon it. This is a really tough thing, considering the relatively small screen, HUD restrictions, and transitioning from Japanese character requirements to English character requirements (You can say so much more with so much less in Japanese!). Just look at all the muddled fonts appearing on retail games for the DS, 3DS, PSP, and even Vita if you need proof that this is not an easy thing to do.

We're still working on it, but we hope you'll agree that this is the best course of action. I hope we'll be able to show you the results soon.

Ok dude just saying, I only said, that they allready answered to do this and if they decide to do it THAT way it IS their choice and they promised quality work. Next thing is, if something looks shitty they won't use it.
Then Im asking you, did u read the full 58 pages? did u see what I wrote? So calm down and don't take my words as offence, I didn't mean to, just saying they ANSWERED u allready to this, don't stick only to your opinion, thats all what I said, after all Sky and Coredecepts aren't the only persons involved with the project, meaning? If something looks shitty, the others would say so.

Don't react like a spoiled child that got everything that he wanted till now and try to think first, what the other person meant ;) Thank you.

Your input just wasn't need. The team is talking directly to him as you can see. If they wanted him to stop talking about it they could simply ask themselves.

I wish there was some kind of game testers for this, or the current English patch itself for people to test and find bugs for Sky :P

@ core: I understand all of that, but I was under the impression that the name tags were image files. In any case, you guys are going with a brand new font altogether right? One not already found in the game files? If it's cool, I'd like to get a sneak preview. Me and my feedback and all. ;) That and, if your current one still doesn't jive altogether, truth is I can actually whip one up that can meet any type of specification you require. :3 I used to create video game UIs for indie developers as a hobby (and a paycheck every now and then!). Wouldn't mind lending a hand if a hand is needed in that regard.

@ joe: You're quite the expert at posturing, aren't you? Last I recall, you're the one who barged into the middle of our discussion telling me "not to fiddle with their work" and not to "stick my opinion." As Nightmesh calmly put it, your presence and input is an unnecessary distraction that adds nothing. You're not part of the team, nor are you even engaging in any sort of constructive discussion.

@ Argon: Quality assurance and bug sweeps can be done by just about anyone currently working on the team... Even the translator or image editor is perfectly suitable to offer analytical feedback on stuff like that. And hell, coredecepts is a proofreader - quality assurance practically comes with the gig. So yeah, anyone who's just interested in "game testing" is just looking for a way to play it before anyone else. :P That stuff is only really necessary in extremely large scale projects. Small stuff like this patch, QA can be done internally without hassle.

And yeah. I DESPISE this forum. It does absolutely everything fucking automatically, so simply quoting someone causes me to lose practically half a post. I'll have to stick with this ghetto way to quote and converse with multiple people until I figure this out.

Well i can tell you one thing for absolute certain....people with new accounts and single digit post counts making backhanded pleas for early access to the patch are going to guarantee that this NEVER HAPPENS. In fact i'd support the translation being delayed for an additional week for every comment like this, and two weeks for every one that comes from a new user with ulterior motives.

The simple fact of the matter is that the translation is highly anticipated and that puts an immense amount of pressure on the quality being up to standard. Once things are done it'd make sense to get a few new people to double check for errors with fresh eyes as grammar and spelling mistakes may slip through here and there, but asking for preview testing is equivalent to asking for a kick in the nuts.

Ok I am just the guy who answered questions, that were asked and i thought Im helping the team that way, but if that is not appreciated I am out. Posturing? Nope, I really thought I helped em out alittle, while they were working on the stuff and didn't have to answer all the questions, that were asked thousand times. But ok I wait for the project to finish and won't post anything anymore.
@Team good luck with the project and if u need anything, Sky has my Skype addy
cya

.

Let's see... this thread has 58 pages, let's say around 20 posts per page, with a quarter of the posts coming from single digits users, and 1/4 of those posts are flames and ulterior motives.

58*20 = 1160
1160/4 = 290
290/4 = 72,5 (Can't have half a post, so we stick with 72)

72 posts /4 weeks (1 month) = 18 months
If we're lucky we may have a patch in mid-2015.

Don't get me wrong. I like unrestrained, undeserved praise too. Working on this thing takes a lot of energy, and I appreciate the enthusiasm.

We all came to this thread for the same reason, and negativity doesn't help.

War is necessary, war brings change. War is necessary, war brings peace!

Eh... Anyway...how many times should I ask for that screenshot now? :/
