Before I pass out once again I figure a new thread is in order. As the title says film (I will also go TV series but try and keep bitching about cancellation of said shows to a minimum) that was panned by critics be they professional or otherwise that you liked.
IMDB links/similar if possible please.
If you like it might be interesting to have a film you hated but everyone else adores for some reason that would also be interesting.

Basically I have come to the conclusion had my thoughts reaffirmed that most critics are idiots and few search engines offer anything other than by rating which means I have "run out" of films to watch bar the bottom of the barrel stuff I have kicking around as rainy day films.

Normally I would reel of a list of my own in an attempt to kickstart such a thread but I have a feeling it will read as last 10 low(ish) budget horror films/shameless ripoffs my sleep deprived and thus puerile mind found amusing.

Dying God- 2.6 on IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1056467/

A textbook lesson in how to make a cheesy film (a corrupt cop who plays by his own rules, a monster, some murders, shootouts) and about as close as you get to a grindhouse film without actually going back in time. I say go Argentinian film industry.
This is not the first time I have suggested this film around these parts so I will go again.

Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God. 4.9 on IMDB (given most films struggle to lower than a high 6 there)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406728/

It might just be that I am a sucker for fantasy themed stuff but for me it ticked all the boxes for what a fantasy film should do and I have most certainly sat through far worse in the pursuit of some fantasy themed entertainment, granted like a lot of such things I thought it would make a better short series than a film.

Film I disliked:
The Departed. 8.5 courtesy of a over two hundred thousand votes.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407887/

If there is a "complex" crime story making up a film/TV series you can bet I will be there at some point. However when compared to Infernal Affairs (the film series it was based on: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/ ) how anyone can describe it as anything other than limp escapes me. I will however reserve the right to pass judgement again when I rewatch Infernal Affairs having finished The Wire several months ago.

Transformers: RotF It got 21% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Dunno why, but an I the only one who seemed to care about the story and everyone else only paid attention to the robots? I thought it was really good but everyone thinks it's some sort of crap story about giant fighting robots.

[Insert here] every single film made off of a cartoon or comic or both or video game.

First off, let me say, if you want Shakespeare, how about you goddamned well watch Shakespeare eh

I haven't hated most of the above category, although I can readily agree some will be better than others of their kind. Spiderman for instance, my only complaint is I never realized Spiderman was a fucking emo in the comics eh.

Everytime I see the words 'plot' or 'acting' or 'script' for one of the above categories, I get a knee jerk reaction that goes something like, you realize porn isn't real either correct? And that the point was to watch it so your boner has an easier time getting to the resolution moment.

Most comic based films are 99% action and 1% attempt to be reasonably similar to the comic it get's it's name from. Complaining about the lack of credible acting in these films is like bitching that all the women in pornos don't sound like your girlfriend/wife while you screw her.

I only get bent out of shape when a movie has been advertised or made to appear or it is implied it will have some manner of credible connection with a real event. Because then you have a reasonable expectation of credibility assurance. I mean they list people meant to ensure technical accuracy, and then the director in his so called expert opinion on how to make a movie decides to not listen to them. Or so it would seem too often.

I can't think of any real film I liked that got panned by critics.
For some reason, all I can think of is (don't laugh) Pokemon: The First Movie.
Sure it was stupid, but for what it was (it was FUCKING Pokemon), it was quite good.

More seriously, one film that got heavy criticism was 'The Fountain' by Darren Aronofsky. I thought it was brilliant.

I also dislike The Departed, by the way. No way did it deserve Best Picture, imo.

I'd say every Pokémon film. Sure, they're not the best films ever, but for what they are they're quite good.
And that latest Star Trek was bitched a lot too, but I like it. It gave me some sort of retroish feeling.

Technically this falls under the category Panzer Tacticer mentioned but "The Punisher" (2004) deserves a special note. I enjoyed every moment of this movie; except for the flaming skull of cars at the end. I was so disappointed when Thomas Jane walked away from the sequel. I can see why he did though, it looked like shit. But anyways, that movie was just plain, dumb, action fun, I don't see what anybody else would want from it.

@sfunk as a fan of all three punisher films I am kicking myself for not including them in the original list. I first saw the one you mention on a plane and only discovered afterwards it was being trashed.

As for pokemon I stood by my mother as she took my then young brothers to see "the first movie". Thankfully that morning I had obtained a light for my GBC or I might have had a psychotic break. On the other hand I once watched the pilot and quite liked it, the rest of the series and thus the films I can not say the same for.

@Panzer Tacticer while there are many films is such a category (indeed it may be a large majority) all might be stretching it for me seen as I have seen more than a few completely miss the point of the source material. No problem with missing out details or smoothing them over or even changing things entirely (see Bourne films) and I have no problem with a mindless action film (by way of argument I have actually watched most of the Steven Segal's latest films).

Thanks everyone else, keep them coming.

Every single movie ever made.

I don't get movie critics. Honestly, it seems like movie critics just have different tastes from normal people.

most of the time thats true. critics watch movies for their content as a piece of literature, most people now watch movies for nice 3d effects, big explosions and hot chicks. big difference.

I've never actually watched movies based on reviews... I used to watch them based on the trailer, but I learned my lesson after movies like Wanted and Public Enemies (okay it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't as great as I thought it would've been...)
