Just a quick one, kinda think my USBC port might be hosed, hoping you guys can tell me otherwise...

I've had my Switch for about 2 months and not used any aftermarket docks, but I know my girlfriend has changed it using various USBC chargers around the house...

I've had this thing CFW for all the time I've had it and had it on AutoRCM, usually I just plug it into my phone, and 2 seconds later I'm in CFW however for the past few days absolutely nothing happens, instead the switch just charges my phone...

I've tested with 3 different cables and have confirmed it's defiantly booted to RCM mode (since it can't even turn off) and have to try about 30 times of just randomly plugging and unplugging the cable, waiting, messing with the power button until it eventually delivers the payload. I have tried to deliver via my laptop too and the same thing happens so I'm sure it's not my phone/Rekaro playing up.
Dock works everytime without fault.

The switch always charges my laptop or phone when plugged in though so I'm not sure if that means the port is messed up...

One other thing I noticed is that when I do finally bootup the reiNX bootscreen is heavily arfifacted, with massive tearing in the bootscreen, it's always different. I would take a photo but then I would need to restart the switch and I'm always scared I'll never be able to get it back again.... But if I do I'll update this post to show you what I mean.

Thanks!

sounds likely, a usb port can be damaged and third party plugs might be a little shorter or longer and not fit perfectly, making damage more likely.
fast chargers could mess it up too.
but maybe not all is lost. have you tried cleaning the port with a brush/toothbrush?

If you can eventually boot, what's the problem?

Because trying pot luck up to 30 times to get it to boot isn't ideal... When it used to work instantly and I have no idea what combination of things I need to do to make it work now it is a problem.

Tried using electronic cleaner on the port so it isn't some junk that gotten caught in it? Even a small spec of dust can be a issue.

Is docked mode working? Does it properly output through the hdmi port to TV? If it is, then I think the USB-C port is fine.

Yep docked mode works just fine, which is why I'm confused.

As I said the switch does actually charge the device it's plugged into so something is happening, I just don't know what's up with the sudden RCM issues I'm having.

What do you mean dock mode is working? How do you send payload through docked from the computer, unless you're talking about USB-A to USB-A.

As in, when I dock it I have no issue with it sending video to the TV, which I would expect to be an issue if the port was indeed faulty.

I use a C-C cable to send payloads, undocked.

You're playing games for free and you still complain for the inconvenience?

Not really sure why you've just assumed everyone does this to pirate but okay...

And it's more than an inconvenience, I'm trying to work out if it's broken or not. Not knowing if the thing will boot or not is not an inconvenience.

Yea right, "homebrew" only argument. TBH be grateful you have a switch with unlimited "homebrew". And at least pay for sx os or at least a injector tool. You're not looking too good here buddy. Cheap is one thing but not supporting modders is another.

Something similar happened to me also whereupon my J5 Prime could not deliver the payload (ReiNX or hekate) but the PC would always do it. Upon insisting the phone could only send payloads like "memloader" or "brickmii". So I changed my phone S7 edge and it delivers just fine (weird!).

Dude, get off his back. Don't assume that everyone is like you. And even if he is, this thread is for troubleshooting, not lecturing. How would you feel if you asked for help and got snark in reply?

You arent looking to good here moron. You talk about supporting modders, you showed your ignorance by saying sxos and supporting modders. Supporting sxos is NOT supporting developers, its actually stealing from developers, you know, since TX stole open source code and profited from someone elses work. Now go some where with your ignorant self.

usb c does bidirectional power, your phone should have a setting to change to stop it from drawing power from the switch, your laptop Im not to sure about.

If the dock works fine then the port itself is not faulty. Could be a chip on the board is faulty. TronicsFix on YouTube repairs these things for a living and might have seen the problem before and have an idea of what's wrong. Maybe he would even be willing to fix it for you for a reasonable price. He lives in US. He hasn't messed with hacked Switches I don't think, but he might have seen the reverse charging issue.

Reverse charging is a known thing and I think its been discussed on here before.
