From what I understand, I believe that is how to make a translated FF4 ISO, but I haven't actually tried it myself to verify thpugh.

As for the file swapping part, you extract all the files from the partition with Wiiscrubber, then just copy and paste the modified files in windows explorer, then use partitionbuilder to build a partition from the directory containing all the files.

Okay, so partitionbuiler just make a partition file which you then swap for the original. I think I get it. I got a problem though: some of the patch files aren't in the Zero4 directory. Most of them aren't actually. I've found a couple of the RSL files in some folders, but the majority of them don't have original copies in the unedited game. Am I missing something here? Will I see them if I extract the partition's files?

Hmmm...

The files in the riivolution package may not use the exact directory structure as in the ISO, and AFAIK uses the XML to tell riivolution where to find the files.

You will have to look for the correct directories in the folder where you extracted the ISO's files, and you should then be able to see the files that you need to replace.

AFAIK the folders in the riivolution package are the correct names, but not the exact file paths used in the ISO.

I understand that I will most likely need to go and find the files themselves, but the fact is that I just straight up can't find some files. Are they hidden or inside another file (kind of like how I need Xpert2 to open .bin)? Should I just extract the Zero4 partition and then browse through it?

Sorry for the double post, but I got it to work using this guide I found on the Dolphin forums (I take no credit for this)(Also, some people have said using the Credits in the Patch makes a corrupt ISO, so I didn't patch those):

Got it.

You need Wiiscrubber (1.4) + partitionbuilder (1.1).

Load ISO in wiiscrubber

Extracting key partition files:
1. Expand Partition:2 (DATA)
2. Right click + extract the following files:
-partition.bin
-boot.bin
-bi2.bin
-apploader.img
-main.dol

Save them all to a folder like "ff4sys" or something.

Data files: Right click Partition:2 (DATA) -> Unencrypted Partition -> Extract
Save to a folder like "ff4data" or whatever you want.

Patch files: Download + Extract the patch files. You need to copy these to the appropriate folders in the data files partition you extracted ("ff4data" in my example). These are the corresponding paths:
BigFontGhostList -> Hide\Item or SmallFontGhostlist -> Hide\Item
Chapters -> RSL
Credits -> RSL
Item -> Hide\Item
Menu -> Miya
Miya -> Miya
RSL -> RSL
Songs -> SND\STREAM

Rebuilding the partition:
1. Open partitionbuilder.exe (make sure you have version 1.1!!)
2. Load up the files it needs (extracted to "ff4sys" in my example).
3. Source file directory is the data partition you extracted to a folder ("ff4data" in my example).
4. Click build, remember the filename you saved it as.
5. Wait. When it finishes, exit partitionbuilder.

Back to Wiiscrubber:
1. Right click Partition:2 (DATA) -> Unencrypted Partition -> Load -> Open the partition img you built in partitionbuilder.
2. Wait. Once it finishes you can exit Wiiscrubber and you'll be all set.

Have fun. Smile

^^^

Instruction itself is bullet proof. I have no problem afterwards. Thanks.

To Tempus,

I noticed several bugs along with this translation. First from time to time text itself can become weird. Second if you start the game without nunchunk connected you'll get a Japanese message which took a while for me to figure out. Third if you stay at the main menu for sometime you'll jumped into the trailer scene, which is not translated. Fourth when you start the game without save you'll be confronted with a message saying save is "not fpund".

May be a dumb question, but does this patch the audio, too? Anyone have any more input on this after it's been out for so long?
It does not "dub" or patch audio. There is a project for that but so that project is on standby because they don't have time right now.

Well, that's no problem.. Does much of the game depend on being able to understand? Like, are there points that I will get caught up reading when I'm supposed/need to be mashing buttons?

The translation itself is sufficient to understand the game. If you never watched or played Asian based horror game/movie it might be new and weird when you play the game, but you'll get use to it.

This game is divided into chapters. To fully understand the game you will need to read all those scripts/books as you pick them up. All you do in the game is pick up object, run away from spirit, attack them using camera, and enjoy the story behind it.

Alright, now that this topic has been bumped, let's ask a question:

The spanish translation did not only translate the game, they also added many new extras, fixed some bugs from the game and the patch itself (I've heard that the ghostlist now works as it should, without messing something other up). Is there any way to port this to the english patch? Or will there be a new release of it soon?

Thanks in advance.

Just want to say that the patch works wonderfully with an image through the WODE. Thanks for the great work. I did notice some typos and the text in the GhostList trails off the edge of the screen. Do I have an older version? (I got it from a torrent, not here. I may reinstall if its an old one.)

There is no new version. There is only one release of the patch, and that is it's first one.

And like I said before, the Spanish Translation fixed many issues, including the overlapping text (see here). I asked in the forums if it would be possible to port these fixes, but no answer. I guess someone/me has to hit tempus on IRC up, if we would like at least some information (and I guess we have to life anyways with the typos)...

I just found this patch and I just love it.
We, my girlfriend and I, bought the game yesterday to complete our collection and now we can not only play the game but understand it too.

Thx to all who made this possible

I just want to say that this patching method DOES work with hbc softmodding and usbloader.

I however, did not throw in the "._.DS_Store" file when replacing the original files with the patched ones, and so far it is working very well.

If you encounter any mistakes like not being able to run the game when you've burned it as a WBFS file or encountered an error saying "exception ISI occurred";
just redo the steps starting fresh, you may have made a mistake probably during the step where you had to use partitionbuilder in which you might've inserted in the
wrong files in the wrong spaces where it asks you to place each specific file data in the sections.

Well in any case, good luck to you all when patching and good luck! very good guide.

Ok, so I did all the procedures, but once I got my backup into the DVD slot, and load it. I get a black screen reading "An error has occurred please press the eject button and remove the disk. Turn the wii console off and refer to the manual."

I'm getting the same problem, and have searched the entire net to no avail. Can someone please help us?

I'm on a 3.2U Wii that has an original Wiikey installed using firmware version 1.9s. I also have cIOS38rev17 installed, and a custom version of NeoGamma R8 RC3 [standalone Wii menu loader channel/which is based off the original Neogamma].

All of the iOS files on the disc, are already on my Wii. I've checked that to make sure with "AnyTitle Deleter Mod v5." I may have an older version of the specific iOS the game uses installed on my console... But I'm not sure about that because I've been hard pressed to find any information about the exact iOS this game uses anyways. "BrickBlocker" was applied before playing too [obviously since I'm on 3.2U, and don't want to upgrade my system menu]. This is the first time this has ever happened to me with any game. & yes the Region Override settings are set to "On" for my Wiikey.

Someone help!!! This is a masterpiece I must experience!!!

:(

Thank You

Looks like they saw your message. They released a Patch for the Patch (Inception? :O ). According to them, it's a update for the english Patch with all the fixes they did on the spanish version. You can check it here.

Bugs fixed:

- In-game menu's character names adjusted
- Text for Lens/Function level up Completed
- Map positions equalized
- Type-07 Film's Infinite symbol
- Blurrier texts replaced with sharper text
- Mission Failed/Completed background
- Added a space next to the lines where the characters talk in text
- Festival lens can now be unlocked with 217 ghosts instead of 233 ghosts
- Backgrounds for Summary screen translated
- Grammatical issues in some files
- Ghost List's double version eliminated
- Puzzles are easier to understand
- Life bar in Choushiro's flashlight
- Playable Madoka Ghost
- Amount of typos at Ghostlist
- Normalized files between 4:3 & 16:9 modes

Indeed it is. But the english patch had some minor bugs that were fixed in the spanish version. So the team that did the spanish version decided to release a small patch to fix the bugs on the english version. This is not a new translation, it's just a fix for the original one.
