Good evening. I was just wondering if you experience faint static horizontal lines when you turn deflicker off. I'm not talking about moving diagonal lines, which is another issue. Here's a link to a video (with timecode) from Good Vibes Gaming displaying the same issue: . It's only noticeable on certain color tones. It's also noticeable in the wii menu when you disable deflicker in priiloader. It's not there with the deflicker turned back on or when the wii is outputting an interlaced signal. The issue is only present in 480p with deflicker turned off. I Have a PAL Wii. Have you experienced it yourself? Do you think it's normal ? Could it be caused by my hdmi converter? Thank you for your time, have a good day.

Sorry for the late reply, I asked this question today and spend hours trying to figure it out The reason as far as I know correct me if i am wrong, is due to a dithering filter added to the Wii's output as seen in the photos below. It appeared on the Gamecube as well and it was to make up for the Wii/GC's lack of color depth (i believe due to memory constraints, supposedly the framebuffer only had access to 3MB RAM of the systems overall 88MB RAM). More colors having to be put in memory takes up more space. Without dithering, the image quality having lots of visible color banding so the solution was a dither filter, which at the time would not have been as visible on CRTs.

For more information, especially where i got most of these facts, I cant give a source to the forum post where if you scroll down enough you can see where someone compared the wii's image quality with and without the dither filter, but trust me.

TLDR: You can disable the dither filter(faint horizontal lines), but its not worth the effort.
