Hacking EZFlash 3-in-1 help

I an using an M3DS Simply, and an EZ Flash 3-in-1

I have a .SAV file that I exported from VBA, and I am wondering how I can make the GBA game run the .sav file via the EZFlash 3-in-1. The game has been SRAM patched.

I've tried just copying the .sav file into the save directory, tried both SRAM and NOR mode. Nothing has worked.

I've been googling about this pretty much all day and this seems like the best place to ask.
