Hardware External Hard Drive Always on the Switch?

I want to know for people who use External Hard drive for Switch
Do you guys leave it connected and power on at all time or not.
Mainly because I want to know if it is a safe thing to let it power on at all time.

I don't think the Switch supports harddrives natively. If your harddrive is a mechnical I would suggest you unplug it, because of the platters spinning even when it's not in use. If it's a SSD you can just keep it in since it won't matter.
