PS1/2 ESR unknown media in drive

Yo, I'm using an external lg dvd writer to burn games with a tdk dvd-r but I seem to always get the error unknown media in drive. Should I try burning without ESR patching it or no?

I used these DVD's years ago before and it worked fine on my slim ps2.

Any help? I burn at 4x, since it cant go lower.

Is your PS 2 still reading your older Backups ? Or original DVD PS2 Games ?

Yes, it reads all of them

I think there are 2 possible sources of error:

The Burner
Do you have the possibility of trying another DVD Burner ?

The DVD-Rs
Did you buy some of the TDK DVD-R at last ?
If yes maybe the ATIP/Production of them has changed.
Do you have the possibility of Verbatim DVD-Rs ? They always recommended and work until today.


You do your "work" as usual ?

- get ISO
- patch it with ESR
- burn 4x

Should I try burning without ESR patching it or no?

No, else they won't be original games of the correct region, dvd movies, or audio CDs - and the mechacon will reject it (unless you have a chip or intend to buy one, in which case just ignore ESR completely)

Try inserting the disc in the start page of wLaunchELF, it will show at the top of the screen what the console is detecting the disc as - correctly ESR patched discs are movie DVDs

Also, slowest speed doesn't necessarily mean highest quality, nobody spent extra on high performance burners and discs (when they had a choice) to use them at 1x so they started actually optimizing them for the higher ones
