I'm trying to update my firmware from 8.1 to 10.2.0 with Daybreak and it keeps giving me the error "failed to get update information, result: 0x00234a02". I downloaded my firmware from darthst.. archive. I extracted the contents of the firmware zip file to sd/firmware/

Before attempting to update firmware I updated Atmosphere (and corresponding patches) to version 0.15.0. and I am on Hekate v5.5.1

I don't know if it has any connection but when I open tinfoil I do get an error message telling me it wants to delete kosmos - and I allow it to do so. This message pops up every time I run tinfoil.

Other than that everything else seems to be working fine.

Anyone know what this error message is and how I can get the firmware updated?

Google suggests the error code means "corrupt nca", so you could try downloading the firmware again (the site you mentioned has hashes to check the validity of your downoad) or it could be a problem with your SD card?

SD card most likely I downloaded 10.2.0 yesterday from the same site and updated with no issues.

Check SD card and go again.
yeah I tried both the mega and archive links and had the same results.
How should I check my SD card?
I can mount it fine on my computer - reads and writes. I can runall the games on it. Goldleaf communicates with quark. Other than this daybreak issue it seems fine?
Could it be related to my old kosmos install on it? or is there known issues with firmware jumps? Should i try a lower firmware first?

Run a h2testw on the SD with no content on it, it will verify if the card is good or not.

You can try updating again, I never had any problem with firmware file from darthsternie.
Did you use daybreak?
what is meant by updating again? If i run day break and select the firmware folder it gives me the same message every time and I can't proceed. It doesn't let me continue to even attempt to use the firmware. That error message shows up at step 2 when it asks me to select the update folder.

Did you ran in applet mode or full ram mode, if it doesn't work in one try the other mode.

I doubt that will solve your problem, check the SD card first.
But I can't check the sd card without wiping the card, right?
so that seems like a last case test to run...
i noticed pretty much every guide says you need to dump using lockpick before updating firmware - but all of those guides are talking about updating using your own sysnand firmware. Is there a similar step I should be doing when using darth's archives?

Copy the data off to a computer, and then test the card empty. You don't need to dump key using lockpick when updating to higher firmware, lockpick is for your keys. I have used darthsternie firmware for all my switches, no problem here. Atmosphere should work fine with Daybreak, use FAT32 if you are on exFAT. But first check the card, if it faulty then you need a new card.

I'm on a mac. h2testw seems to be windows only. Any mac suggestions?

Meant to ask, is your SD card fat32 or exfat? Because if it's exfat you should switch to fat32.
It's fat32
I found the issue!
I'm using a mac - macs are annoying and create hidden .file variations of pretty much every folder and file that you copy or delete.
So I guess when I was copying over (anything) the firmware folders it was making a .firmware folder as well as 219 extra hidden .nca files. I went into nxshell and saw these.. deleted them and the update worked.

SO to anyone using a mac to load up their sd card - pay attention to the hidden files and folders - they'll cause all kinds of trouble.

In the future, try using AIO-switch-updater, you can download firmwares directly on your switch (I believe its from Darth site but can't remember)

this seems like a convenient alternative but would require me to go online. I have my switch in airplane mode whenever using emummc.
I still have not gone down the incognito rabbit hole.
