I installed ITLs enso to my vita as the full package in order to get the better homebrew browser and it’s been stuck in a boot loop ever since. It takes me to safe mode but only allows update software or restart. Should I put an update file (if so which) on my SD card or are there any other options that don’t wipe my SD card

Updating won't wipe your SD card. It's less drastic than a system reset. You must use the same or later firmware (anything that gets you out of the loop is worth trying). Assuming you have a Vita memory card, the update file should be /data/PSP2/UPDATE/PSP2UPDAT.PUP. If you you're on PSTV, the path on USB drive is different.

thank you, my primary device is a macbook which only recognizes certain files and folders withing the sd2vita sd card. It shows data, so should I just make a new path within the currently existing data folder or do something else entirely

No, the above solution only works from a Vita memory card. (Have friends with Vitas?). If you haven't already, remove your SD2Vita. If it still won't boot, you may have to do a reset (which can't affect your removed card nor its data, but will wipe offline trophies, bookmarks, etc).

Edit: Before you do a reset, try to boot without plugins (Hold L while you power on I think). If that boots, you can disable conflicting plugins, backup your trophies, etc.
