I was able to update a couple of games successfully, but three of them fail at 99% with the error code 005-8034. I have searched here and on DDG, but I cannot find much if anything about this error, what it means, and how to fix it.

300 limit reached?
Try a bigger card?300 limit? on installed games? I only have ~25 to 30 installed titles.
I thought that the region might be the trouble, but only one is a non-US title....
Are you updating your games via freeshop or eshop?
Also. Did you get the games from eshop. freeshop. or from a third party place?

Seems like your best bet is to try running TikSweeper first, then try again. Otherwise, have a look through the other potential solutions.
LumaUpdater is a homebrew application which will keep Luma up-to-date for you. Make sure you have the latest version installed and then make sure you have the latest versions of Luma and B9S installed.I tried updating them with the [Y - Update] option from the [Launch Application] screen. They are from a third party.
I didn't see the first link, but I did read the second link. I didn't (don't) know what "star updater" and "LumaUpdater" are ,though. I know what Luma is but I didn't know if that had any bearing on my particular issue. I can try TikSweeper...

You should probably take a look here: http://3ds.guide/updating-b9s
FYI, the 3DS cannot download out-of-region updates through the regular updater, so if the updates still aren't working, install FreeShop and install the updates through there because it'll download the correct updates rather than ones from the wrong region.
It might also be worth reinstalling them via FreeShop if they still don't work after applying the updates that way.
Yep, if you go to your games list in FreeShop, it'll have a little icon next to a game that can be updated. There are green and... orange icons, if I remember correctly. I think the green one means there's an update available. I can't remember for sure though but it's one or the other. You'll figure it out.I have FreeShop installed. I didn't know I could update through there. I will try that. I'll also be sure I jave the latest B9S. I did run the LumaUpdater right after I installed the CFW this weekend, so I know it's up to date. Thanks.

For future reference, if that's the case, you probably obtained bad CIAs. You're better off downloading them via FreeShop in the future to avoid those issues, if possible.I tried that today. These three games didn't show updates or dlc available. A couple of others did, so I did those, but...
meh... it's ok. I tried the games out and I didn't really like them that much anyway, so I just deleted them. Thank you all, though.
