I was just wondering. Does my encryption type on my wireless modem have to be WEP-Shared in order for my wifi on my ds to work? Cuz if it is WEP-Shared, my laptop wont work lol. >_< is there a way to make it so both work?

Nope, WEP or Wireless-Encrypted-Password is only needed if you want to protect your Wifi from being used by people passing by.

If you don't care then, put the Access Point in Unsercured mode.

No, I do want a password on my wireless. But is there another encryption type other then Shared that will work on dsi wifi?

Somehow, from the information I have read, having a password really doesn't do crap except that you have something that you can type in. As for DSi wifi...I think that can use WPA, but I have no idea what you want to use THAT for...the best you could do is browse the internet or screw your flashcart over with the new update.

1. Unsecured-Anyone can use your Wifi if they pick it up.
2. WEP Wireless-Encrypted-Password Offers minimal protection against hackers.
3. WPA Wifi-Protected-Access Point A step up from WEP, protection.

So ur saying I should leave my wifi off until the fix for the new firmware is released?

Man, don't leave your Wifi connection without protection, even if it's minimal. WEP keys are easy to sniff, but few people knows how or are willing to do that. Using WPA isn't recommended, because if you use that on your DSi, you'll be be only able to connect to wifi on the DSi menu (DSi Shop, Opera, etc), but your wifi games won't be able to use that connection. My advise is to use WEP and try to figure out why you laptop can't connect to that kind of ecryption key.

I know, I want to use WEP, but I heaard only wep-shared works. And that is something that is hard for laptops with windows xp, vista, or 7 is able to access >_

Never heard of such problem. Here in my home, my Wii, DSi, desktop PC(Windows XP) and laptop (Windows 7) share the same WEP-shared Wifi access point.

May I ask why your Laptop won't work with WEP?

My recommandation would be to use WPA2 on regular basis. Only switch to WEP 64 bit when you are using DSi.

There is really no point on using WEP on regular basis, cause it is the easiest one to crack (even with MAC filtering and SSID broadcast disabled). But if you are using it to play games only then it'll be okay. Even if hacker cracked your WEP they only gets their hands on gaming data, which is useless to them.

you could always follow what nintendo say, either use WEP or find an OPEN network. nice one nintendo telling their customers to jump on unsecured networks rofl
