Hello all. I am getting a used xbox 360 with no HD - is buying a 20GB HD on ebay safe to do (ie not get banned)? I don't believe it's an original MS HD.

I read through a couple thread here and I believe it's ok, right? Some other threads on other sites made me uncertain.

i think all you have to worry about is the fact that your buying a fake xbox 360 hard drive from ebay.

What could go wrong?

How much are you buying it for? I just bought a brand new 120GB HDD on Amazon for $53 including shipping and tax.

I appreciate the other comments but looking for info about being banned with the HD.

I have a 20GB now on another xbox and it's plenty of space - I don't do movies, music, etc. The price is around $25 total for the ebay HD - I'm looking to get an xbox for the kiddo at the lowest price - used xbox and ebay drive if possible?

I could throw in a 4gb stick for space but if this will work then great - but hate to get my son's account banned.

Anyone with the answer?

Thank you.

You won't get baned for using a third party HDD.

Thank you - my son will be thrilled to have his own xbox. Now he can ~attempt~ to pwn his dad in Red Dead.

20gb is only able to install about 1 or 2 games onto it
you could probably just get a Xbox360 compatibility WD 250gb hdd for $40-$50

Who says he needs it for installing games? I don't understand why people are so anal about installing games to there HDD.

it's a recommendation....there isn't any need to buy a hdd if it's not for installing games..4gb is more than enough to keep all saves files
and to prolong the dvd drive, it's best to install games to hdd and also saves alot of game loading time

I need one for all of my DLC. I have around 40GB worth of DLC I have boughten. Although once I get my new HDD I probably will start installing some of my games.

If you can afford it just get a 250GB if you look hard enough you can fing one for aroun 100$. Then you won't have to woory about hard drive space for a while. Also like Fudgenuts said its completely safe.

I don't think 20GB drives are fake. 20GB to 50GB WDs probably rare since there so small, if they exist at all that is. It probably won't be cheap either. But there had been no bans for using unofficial drives so no worries.
