minecraft needs to be on steam :/
there was a reason it wasn't on steam i thought. looked it up;
"Being on Steam limits a lot of what we're allowed to do with the game, and how we're allowed to talk to our users," Notch writes on his blog. "We (probably?) wouldn't be able to, say, sell capes or have a map market place on minecraft.net that works with steam customers in a way that keeps Valve happy. It would effectively split the Minecraft community into two parts, where only some of the players can access all of the weird content we want to add to the game."

And then came Mojang.
Didn't Maxis make the sims?

At which point Steam Workshop will have transformed into a sentient factory powered by tiny nanomachine elves that bear a striking resemblance to Gabe Newell.

And the manager will resemble GLaDOS.

Didn't Maxis make the sims?
Yes.

And not those awful MySims games. A good developer would have nothing to do with that crap.

As somebody who has had to reinstall Windows on my son's computer after he attempted to install Mod Manager on that machine

This means jack. I've seen people think they need to reinstall windows because an icon moved or they wanted to uninstall something and didn't know how.

However I really, really agree that mods need official support, and hopefully 1.3 will do that. They've been holding back official mod support since 1.0.

I'd like to know what happened to make him need to reinstall windows after his son tried installing mod manager. If you can't right click a .jar and "Open with WinRAR/7Zip/whatever" you deserve to have your computer rights revoked.

I heard minecraft changed a lot. Is it even a sandbox anymore?

Well a sandbox implies you do a vast number of things so it never really was.

I think Notch needs help developing the damn thing. Oh wait, that's someone else's responsibility. The game is still incredibly unfinished and lacking in a lot of aspects. If it got a big name publisher like EA under it so they could, you know, actually make the game, then it'd be pretty neat.

EDIT: But this does absolutely reek of "Well Origin is kinda shit so we'll force more people to use it by segregating games to it." It worked for Battlefield, it worked for Mass Effect 3, but I can't think of any more big EA titles coming soon. So I guess if they can whore out Minecraft then it'd work.
I agree that it is too buggy and unfinished.
After I started playing Terraria i just lost most interest in minecraft...
Cube world looks good though.

He did get help with developing it. Jens Bergensten (also known as Jeb) turned it into an RPG.
