I like this quite a lot.

The GUI is well made for fast finger operation.
The included test video plays fine and everything seems to be very responsive.

The encoder does not work here on macos leopard (intel).
I tried it with a 3:30 min. music video in divx format (from stage6.com).
At first everything seems to go fine, but then after ~4 mins the encoder goes into an endless loop telling me to set a break point in some malloc function.

If anyone has a longer test video, please share it.

Yeah I'll need some comparison pictures between DSVideo and moonshell video quality before I decide on which one to use.

Thanks.

This probably has slightly better image quality than DPG files, but at a lower framerate and larger filesize. I'll try to get some comparison pictures up once I install the .NET 3.5 framework (only have up to 3.0 currently).

Larger filesize? Urza quoted this:
QUOTE"An entire movie can be compressed into around 400MB."

If that is true then that is amazing.

I have a 1 hour 45 minute video file here, original size 700 MB. Compressed to DPG with a framerate of 18-20 (can't remember) and a very respectable bitrate, it's 300 MB. I haven't tested DSVideo as I stated, but I'm guessing it would produce a larger output file.

When I go into the DSvideo encoder program it says:

QUOTE said:
dsvideo.exe - Application Error

The application failed to initialize properly (0x0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Nevermind I just didn't have .NET Framework 3.5 installed.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
