^that is total BS because i play my DSi on lowest light with volume off all the time and i still barely get over 5 hour
What's BS - My results or Nintendos specs ???
& are you using a genuine game or a flashcard ??

I've actually managed to find the Nintendo actual specs for each system and that also confirms what I've said above

Not to mention GameGuys95 battery may have less life left of it. Seems pretty atrocious to call it BS

BTW, we don't exactly know how much more battery it takes unless you test with a retail game on the same DSi.Well - time permitting I'll try this weekend with a retail game & see what times I get.
I've not got many retails (I wonder why

) but I'll do the same settings as the ones I did before (Highest light settings & idling etc) and post my results

EDIT: QUOTENot to mention GameGuys95 battery may have less life left of it. Seems pretty atrocious to call it BS frown.gif
Mind you I could be getting good results 'cos I don't have the WiFi switched on (cos I don't have WiFi !!!) - whereas 'GameGuy' may've left his on
I might just the Dsi test again with WiFi on & see what the time difference is

Ok took a little while (been busy over the weekend) but here's my 'test results' on a DSi
[I MAY do a DSL later - just for comparison]

Test Conditions....
  • > DSi fully charged
    > Highest Brightness level
    > Sound on Lowest Level (NOT 'Muted')
    > Wifi turned OFF on all test unless stated otherwise
    > Game is started and left 'idling' (i.e. letting it show it's 'DEMO gameplay' intros)
Note: Time/Stopwatch is started the moment the DSi is switched on (not when game is started) & stopped when DSi/DSL switches itself off

Results:
Note: Nintendo states that DSi Battery life on Highest Light Level = 3-4hrs
  • DSi [NDS-GBA Emulator] 'Metroid - Zero Mission' Intro: 3hrs 20mins
DSi [NDS-GBA Emulator + WiFi turned on] 'Metroid - Zero Mission' Intro: 3hrs 18mins
DSi [Retail game] 'Sonic Rush' Intro: 4hrs 06mins
    DSi [DSTwo+ROM] 'Sonic Rush' Intro: 3hrs 18mins
DSi [NO game card inserted] 'Health Screen'/Channels: 3hrs 59mins
DSi [NO game card + WiFi turned on] 'Health Screen'/Channels: 3hrs 37mins

"Nintendo's official data" about battery life is stated in DSi's manual. If you just bothered to read it before messing around

Anyway, my DSTwo is coming, so I'm going to do this test if I get some time.

& what if you've LOST the manual..??? (FYI: You can download a copy from nintendo website)

... & anyway, what's this about 'Mucking around' ??...The OP mentionedQUOTE- DSTWO is a real battery life killer, especially in-game menu isn't economical.
- Moderately low battery life even not using Gba Emu
So I thought I'll just have a go & prove HOW much drain on the battery using a DSTwo actually is,and based on my results - we can see that:
  • 1) Nintendo hasn't 'expanded the truth' of the battery life on the DSi - They claim 4hrs MAX, & playing a Retail game (or leaving it on 'idle') and the DSi does actually last ~4hrs
    2) You 'lose' ~18% of the battery life using a DSTwo flashcard - regardless if you're playing a NDS or GBA game
    3) You also 'lose' ~10% just by keeping the WiFi switched on
IMHO I think this is useful info, as it give DSTwo users an idea of how bad it really is on battery life

(oh... have you a DSi or one of the other DS's, perhaps getting battery results on the other systems may also be a good idea for comparisons)

Great list.
BTW, can you do 1 more test? Use NDS-GBA with Wireless turned on.

But I guess I'll hold on to my AK2i just for battery life.

Er...how do you propose he do that?
Turn the Wireless setting in the DSi to ON, then using NDS-GBA.
Because that third light on the DSi somehow actually consumes about 30min according to CannonFoddr's results.

Also don't forget it's not JUST the light - with it switched on you also have the wireless hardware draining power, which IIRC - although it's not connected to a WiFi network it will stiill be 'broadcasting'

Test Finished: DSi [NDS-GBA Emulator + WiFi turned on] 'Metroid - Zero Mission' Intro: 3hrs 18mins
Boy did THAT surprize me - it's nearly the same regardless of whether Wifi is On or Off

Based on your that result, I'm assuming that when the Wireless is on, it only drains more power in the DSi menu or when actually using wi-fi/wireless.
I'm thinking this list of yours should be included in the DSTWO FAQ. I think it's very useful.
Also, keep in mind I was asking a bunch of questions only because I haven't recieved my DSTWO yet (hopefully it's coming sometime this week

I was wondering...the results confirmed what I was thinking anyway (as to why the test wouldn't work).

Um, yeah. I get that. The reason I was asking 'how' was because it didn't make sense for me since...you know, DSTwo's GBA emulator wasn't using wireless for anything. That's all. I'm seriously not trying to argue over it or anything.

keep testing things like this! very helpful info!

Well what other test would you like ?? - I think what I've done so far covers most possibilities, although I could try 'retail game + WiFi on' and 'DS2 + ROM +Wifi on' (time permitting - don't forget I gotta have at least 6-7 hours free do to each test, what with the charging up [~2h30m] & 'idle test'
laugh.gif
) but I don't suspect there's gonna be too much of a surprize in battery life with those

I guess I could also do similar tests with a DSLite or with one of the other flashcards that I have (M3Zero/Acekard2i) for comparisons (although I guess those cards may last longer than the DSTwo - not having an additional CPU on them)

@ YayMii: FYI - I passed on your suggestion & it's now been included in the DStwo FAQ's
