Hacking DSTT LOADING freezing PROBLEMS

its not just me then with the freezing

freeze freeze freeze
total crap
there even bending them now to get them working
stay away

I have my doubts that it's the way that you format the card that's the issue. I also experienced this stupid freezing problem today.
I installed the kernel and roms on a FAT formatted card (2GB Sandisk made in Japan), inserted the microsd card in the TTDS, ran one game (Brain Training) and worked perfectly. I shutdown the DS, went for a small trip and when i turned the unit on again and tried to run a game... it froze displaying the "loading" sign right after creating the save. All games did the same EXCEPT for 3in1 ExpPack Tool and Brain Training (the only game i ran before shutting down the DS). I bet this has something to do with the save games in the card. However... the saves do not seem to be corrupt since some 10 minutes later after doing all sort of crap to the cards settings, individual rom settings (soft reset on/of, cheats on/off), removing and inserting the microds and/or the TTDS, all the games started working again except for stupid contra 4 - verified later on that the card had like 4 save files with the exact same name (wtf) in uppercase, while the rom itself was lowercase.

I had the loading problem last week I just re-formatted (FAT32) my card and it was fine until today--I ejected the micro sd while the DSTT was still in the nds(While it was turned off of course!!) just for the sake of doing it and when I reinserted and turned it on it the first time the error mark came up I just took the whole thing out and ejected the sd again the DSTT menu came up but when I went to load a file the bloody loading/freeze happened again!! I'm just reformatting my card again....see what surprise I get this time--damn teething bugs! Cant wait for a %!*n update!!

Happened again whats goin on?--Tried using fresh ttds menu files(nothe the previous ones on the card) and it works again---strange--first time I loaded it with new menu files the Nintendo boot up screen frooze (I almost shat my self!!) on another boot up its as good as flash carting can get!! I hope this helps on sorting out how to avoid this in the future...maybe use a fresh set of menu files each time you take out the card?? I dunno..Its working again for me!!

Now my DSTT is very temperamental! The ds doesn't even recognize the flash cart on boot up sometimes

(touch the screen to continue---)
It's a brand new DS lite too!!!

I dunno I really like my DSTT but... if this crap keeps goin on I might get one of those EDGE cards when they come out...

This being my first flashie I've never had an R4-- is the R4 better for reliability?? Thanks in advance...

danejade,

You may have one of the bad DSTT's that isn't making proper contact. Try to find out if the problem is with your DSTT, your flash card, your flash card reader, human error, etc. If it's your DSTT, exchange it for a new one. I have a DSTT and it works great, so they're not all like that.

I have seen one in ten that I know of cause problems. The DS would not recognize the card. Micro SD was fine. Returned it for a new one and no problems. If you have spare cash, sure bend it and pull it apart! The DSTT is a good card. I'm sure if you check out other cards, there will be stories about faults too.

Yeah thanks guys..I really like this card I just want it to work.. I'm gonna see if I can exchange it for a new one--- lucky I got it at a actual shop front here in Aussie land! I'll post an update next week... cheers

Yeah just an update : I emailed the shop where I got it last weekend on a Sunday. the guy got back to me within an hour!! (great service on a day they are closed and on a public holiday weekend!) They said they'll replace or refund whatever I want to do! They also said bring the thing in and we'll get it going for ya! Bloody great shop I have to give them a plug... www.quantronics.com.au a great mod shop for aussie gamers/sydney siders
A little pricey compared to the china/HK stores... But service you can't bloody beat!
I was expecting to be palmed off but to my surprise they're bunch of understanding great blokes!!

I changed a couple of the ways I did things...Anyways Ive got three months warranty on the cart so it should be ok if it stuffs up again anyways...

catch yaz later

danejade,

That's excellent! The most common problems I've heard with the DSTT (aside from human error) are problems with those crappy micro readers that come with the cart, problems with FAT32-formatted microSD's (FAT16 seems to work better for some people), and of course the contact problem with some of the carts.

Hopefully if there's a problem with your cart, it will crop up again before your 3 months are up.

ok i just had the same loading problem with roms, but i figured out a solution that worked for me. i created a seperate folder for games and saves combined, so i have the menu files in root of folder, and another folder names Games in the root, and i placed all my roms/saves in that folder, the dstt booted up, and games loaded right away with no problems, some additional info i did before in case it might effect it, im using FAT(aka FAT16), 64kb cluster, try out the folder thing and let me know how it works out
