Gaming DSL: top screen problems

My DSL's top screen is having problems. It about 60% of the time, the top screen goes blank/white upon opening the console. I'm not sure if the problem exists with the screen, the ribbon cable or both.

I've read many posts in which the screen went bad and other which said the ribbon cable is flimsy and can break/tear easily. Here's a short video of the problem I'm having: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAbhE1UXMss

Since there is a crack on the hinge already, I'm going to replace the housing and would appreciate some helping to what else I might need to replace, and where I might be able to get it.

I'm guessing that it is a breaking ribbon cable. If it is, the only real thing you need is a new top screen...and of course the screwdrivers if you don't have them already.

Do I need a new screen if its a breaking ribbon cable? If I were to buy a new screen, would it come with a ribbon cable? I already have the screwdriver(s).

Also, what is a decent place to find this stuff, dealextreme?

If it is a breaking ribbon cable, then yeah you pretty much buy a new screen (not like they sell DSLite ribbon cables separately...most of the time it's with a screen attached). As for a decent place...I've only ever bought one replacement screen from DX and it seems to work just fine (my shoddy skills at soldier leaves me with some slightly tinny sounding speakers, but all in all I haven't had anything amiss).
