Before updating, I recommend setting up a NAND hardwood and dump the NAND. When you do update and get its CID and ConsoleID for decrypting it, you can extract some very old versions of system titles that were probably never available on NUS.

there a list of firmwares that were dumped? i'd gladly dump it, i just don't ever have the intention of updating it. i don't really have a need to

Not that I know of.

The Data Management section in the System Settings does not show up until you update, se there is currently no way to get the ConsoleID without updating.

You need a preinstalled exportable DSiWare title (such as a game or the Nintendo DSi + Internet video) in order to get the ConsoleID, so as long as your DSi has one, then once you also have its CID, you can decrypt the 1.0 NAND dump and extract the 1.0 system titles.

I still recommend setting up the NAND hardmod. Perhaps one day, someone will figure out a method of obtaining the ConsoleID without exportable DSiWare.
