No no no for the love of god no! Why do people make these wild assumptions about how this stuff works. It's spectacularly ignorant.

Why are we so consistently surprised when people are wrong about things? Being wrong is part of the learning process.

Nobody is expected to know everything, especially things that don't concern them, or directly affect their lives. They have no need to.

Misconceptions about trivial things are extremely common, and they persist when people who know better would rather make fun of them behind their backs instead of correct them so that next time the subject comes up they can avoid making the same mistake.

People only know what they're told. They fill in the gaps by guessing. It's normal. We've all done it at some point in our lives.
Buffer/stack overflow attacks are what's commonly discussed, most save exploits use them (or hunts start by looking for them), and the PS3's initial public hacking was due to one, so that's what's in most people's minds. If you're tired of people not knowing things, attempt to fix it instead of shut them up. Having a curiosity about these things is a good thing, and it's not like the big names in the hacking scene came out of the womb knowing the stuff they do. People need to start somewhere.

This is BS! Programming is something you need to learn by yourself by reading a book and learning by doing. I feel sorry for you, if you always only learn when other people tell you and not by taking the initiative first and search for an answer by yourself. No other science is so well documented in the www like computer science. You can learn everything about it, only just by reading and trying (i know that, i study IT and i started at nearly zero knowledge about programming and had to figure out everything on my own in the first semester).

How about starting by reading?
When you know nothing, you shut up and read.
If you have zero knowledge about something it makes no sense for someone to try to explain it to you, you have to first acquire at least a base for yourself (school is a different thing, i´m talking about forums).
Explaining on gbatemp how a buffer overflow works, is like explaining a complicated mathematical formula to someone who never had maths in their life.

No offense, but i think it´s better to shut up and read, then to flood the forums with uninformed nonsense.
It would make a thread more of a source of useful information, instead of a pain in the ass to read.

Stop being such an arrogant asshole, please. I'm in my fourth semester of computer science, I know what the fuck I'm talking about. An overflow through a save hack will probably be what ends up leading to the first 3DS hack, just like the Wii. That's why they're MAKING these tools.

You'll have to excuse that the quote did not 100% apply, as I am not that person and twisting their words around wouldn't be the right thing to do.

When you know nothing, you shut up and read. And one of the problems is when people who have the info decide to mock other people instead of helping. People like FAST will put their knowledge out there, whereas people like we've seen lately come in and simply insult the whole forum for guesses. I was trying to make a contrast between the two (FAST's way being the right way, their way being the wrong way to approach the situation).

Excuse me, but I make guides and help people, and I try to teach people. When there's a lot of misunderstanding about something, I try to fix it.

You severely misunderstood the point. Sitting around and yelling at everybody for not knowing what they're talking about isn't going to fix things. The proper reaction to a lack of education is education. Simply telling somebody "you're stupid, you'll never be a hacker, go away" is discouraging, and not the right thing to do.

Is it the IP address of the PC as the internet sees it, or the IP address on the LAN? I entered its IP address according to its connection on my router's config page and it doesn't work, but then it doesn't make much sense if it was the ISP IP address since surely it's connecting through the LAN rather than via the internet?

Well I have it set up so I can stream video files and music from my PC to my Xbox 360 in the living room, so I don't think that's the problem. Just to be more specific about the problem itself, the program seems to be working at the DS's end, at least at first. It gets to the point where it's going to send the files and then just freezes. The program on the PC always says "Waiting for incoming connection" or something to that effect.

It may be connected to the problem, but I'm not sure what's meant by "(Leave a newline at the end of the IP)" in the instructions.

DSaveManager can be used to transfer savefiles from DS/3DS games via wlan to a PC.
Obviously 3DS cards normally don't fit into a DS.
You can either saw off the edge or open the card with a knife and
insert the board into a DS card-case.

You can try one of these

Finally! Replacement cases for your Nintendo DS games. Change your old DS game case from the dull gray color to a new custom crystal color case.

You can open up your 3DS game carts and they will fit these custom cases i found also they will supply a replacement sticker for the game.

Firewall on the PC allowing the program?
Yep, I confirmed it when the "Allow this program" window popped up. I have noticed something, though. When the program runs on the DS, the IP address is written like "XXX.XXX.X.XX ", with a space between the final number and the speech mark. That could be the problem.

Crediar has relesed a new version: (DSM v0.2; adds restore from FAT! http://bit.ly/e13NCf)

Thanks to Erant who supplied me with code for writing to the new FLASH
type used in 3DS games!

One note.
Is it possible that DSaveManager doesn't work with every game.
I got some games which only contain 1 Bit of data.
Is this a known problem?

Is there any source code available for the DS homebrew? I would prefer to not have to go through the trouble of disassembling it in IDA.

Source code for the DS homebrew would be a great starting point for a ROM dumper.

This.
Seeing that the 3ds rom dump that was released was made with a dslite

No it wasn't.

And anyway, there are already ROM dumpers for the DS, e.g. NDS Backup Tool, by Rudolph. There are WiFi, Slot-2 and 3-in-1 versions.

I would suggest adding some detail regarding the restore function... like changing the name of the dump.bin file to *.sav
But you guys made a great job with this tool, thank you!
