Gaming DS VC for Wii U: Now a Reality

Uhm... yay? I mean, this is all fine and dandy, but DS games continue to be supported on the 3DS, there's really not a lot of "need" for this. That, and I can't quite imagine how games with a horizontal orientation would work on the Wii U gamepad - I'd love to see how those fit on it and how much space is wasted for columns. Speaking of digital distribution, what I would like to see though is eShop releases of DS games on the 3DS, some of the carts are hard to come by, it would be a nice addition to the store.

What I do not like about DS VC titles is total lack of options, only option is turning image 180 degrees with right stick. Brain age was pretty good first title as screen layout is side-by-side and uses touch and voice controls.

Absolutely!
People are used to buy full games digitally these days and that would definitly make 3DS more desireable. Also being able to carry all your games without need for flash card or to carry X number of cartidges is definitly good thing - they already have SD card support! They could even go playstation style and buying old game once let's you have it on both platforms :P

I can see some games working ok if the TV is the top screen and the gamepad is the bottom, but if they all play the same as brainage, then it simple wont work, the buttons are in all the wrong places with the screen rotated like that.

Are people actually upset about this? Really? Yes, the 3DS would make more sense, but not everyone (including me) has a 3DS, nor do I plan on ever getting one again.

What kind of real Nintendo fan doesn't have a 3DS? Then how do you play games like Mario Kart 7, The Mario & Luigi Series, Paper Mario Sticker Star, and all the other awesome games?

I'd rather not get into the details as to why here, but let's just say one, I can't see 3D due to being born with a visual defect and two, I've had a 3DS XL in the past but ended up selling it. Being a Nintendo fan doesn't mean you have to have every console or handheld, what kind of BS logic is that? I have a Wii U as well as Mario Kart 8, Windwaker HD, New Super Mario Bros, Need For Speed Most Wanted and Assassin's Creed IV. Unless someone gave me a reason to get a 3DS, it ain't gonna happen. There's really no reason to tell us fans what consoles we're "supposed to have"

Saying "What kind of Nintendo fan doesn't have a 3DS" is very condescending and comes across as being smarmy and derisive. The 3DS doesn't interest me at all, heaven forbid I don't have one.

It's nice to have it all in one rather than buying multiple systems for the games, as it can all be in one console as it is possible.

The games which use consistently both screens can use the TV for it rather than the GamePad only, because using it side-ways wouldn't really work.

It's been said before, but hey...I've been playing brain training on my wiiu for a week now. It works pretty well, but I imagine that won't be true for most games.

You've been playing this game for a week? >_<

Likewise.

I've bought a 2DS for the great exclusives but when it comes to MK7... I'll just stick to MK8. Sure it's different consoles but it feels somewhat like the same game with improvements/new features one over the other.

Super Mario 64 DS.
Why? I would say that gameplay-wise, DS version is an improvement over the original with the extra characters and stars and all, but honestly I think it would look awful on a big screen. Plus it would be only 8 directions, with a run button. (Though those last aspects weren't deal-breakers for 3D World).

That's what filters are for, the GBA games have them

Don't forget that filter-thingy you use on DS emulators to make the DS games look better than they were originally intended to.

I dunno where it is, but it's posted somewhere in GBATemp.

But that's up-rendering and hardly usable. Looking at some gamepad screenshots from Miiverse it seems it's using the same filtering as the 3DS.
Brain Age is upscaled to 384x462 on the gamepad.
Whatever filter they used it's pretty good:

Compare it to GBA which should not be using filters:
