Gaming DS screensize compared to 3DS?

When i use DS games on my 3DS XL, the screen is blurry, due it being outscaled. But when i use the select trick, my screen is small. Too small in my opinion. Or was that really the size of the DS screen?

The native res ds screen on the (new/old) 3dsxl is actually a little larger than the regular dsi screen. I compared them with measuring tape once.

The 3ds screen is a higher dot pitch (the pixels are smaller and closer together) than the DS screen. Also the 3DS screen is 400x240 whereas the DS screen is 256x192. So, although the 'select trick' will give you 1:1 pixel ratio, the screen will look smaller because the pixels on the 3DS screen are smaller.
