Hacking DS replacement case

Daughter has just dropped wifes DS (not DSL/DSi but the old one) so I'm looking for a new case. Found one on ebay which comes with the screwdriver, case opener etc.

My question, which may be a stupid one.

Is there a way of upgrading a DS to a DSL, i.e can I fit the DS inners into a DSL case?

No: Besides it will not fitt, the layout of all extrusions (buttons, plugs, holes etc) are mismatched.

It would be kinda cool if someone made a DSL style case to the size form of the original DS, it would be bulky though.

Surely he won't have the moulding equipment/connections to get the thing molded that would be needed? Even if he is an amazing console modder, would be awesome though.
