happened today, was pretty bummed.

A receipt gives 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. I'm quite sure Nintendo will give a replacement if the warranty is still up. I believe the day it came out in Australia was the 2nd of June, so the warranty should still be there.

I heard you can register your product online in america through the official nintendo website. But not here in Australia. Why not ring Nintendo and see if you can submit any other forms of proof of purchase other than the receipt?

don't bother trying to send it back to nintendo.
i tried getting by dslite replace for a cracked hinge and i was forced to pay $55 for the repair or $25 dollars for wasting their time.
they'll just say that it's all your fault because you misused it even if you to extra spacial care of it.

They probably got tired of replacing so many cracked shells. The 25 dollar fee is the shipping and handling charge (sent by express overnight >_>, but only after like a week of paying them). I sent my DS in for fixing a stuck pixel, cost me 25 dollars, and they didn't even fix it (claimed it wasn't there). If your warranty holds, you should not need to pay the 25 dollar charge.

I got a cracked hinge on my DS Lite also... I just sealed it up with glue then i used white out to make the crack look white agian lol

I sent mine in right at the beginning of the cracked hinge phenomenon.

They determined it was my fault (somehow) but I didn't let up, I hit them with a bunch of questions they couldn't answer (can't remember now what I said).

Eventually, after initially telling me I needed to pay the fee to get it fixed, they agreed to take the case to their MD, who decided they will fix it for free, but they still didn't deem it a manufacturing defect, so I was "lucky"...

Anyway, the moral of the story is, if you can live with it, live with it, it's a pain in the arse to get it fixed for free, and it takes forever!

thanks for your help.

i figure ill email Nintendo, and say i was disappointed and some other story on how it shouldn't have happened.

maybe they will agree to send a new one lol

lol, I cracked mine so I returned it on the last day my warranty was valid (30-day warranty). And I got to keep the 2 year warranty I purchased with my DS. Lick my ass Best Buy (if they don't let you return it claim multiple problems, games don't work sometimes, dead pixel, and finally cracked hinge).

mine did that too, also a day 1 Australian dslite, called up their support number, said id definately need the receipt and would more than likely have to pay for it, and definately have to pay $25.00 postage or some such amount.

So i'm just using it until they release another revision of the ds i guess.

I used to work at FutureShop (a company owned by BestBuy), and the cracked hinge was a problem that I knew about.
Before I started working there, the customer service desk wouldn't allow returns of DS Lites that had cracked hinges.
After I began there, every customer that I knew of, that had the cracked hinge - was able to return their DS Lite (within the alotted timeframe, of course).

I only did it because I had so much love for Gbatemp, though... So don't go thinking that I'm some kind of nice guy, hahaha.

My friend had a cracked hinge (DSL bought on the first day in Australia), and he doesn't seem to care. Probably isn't worth the trouble until the hinge breaks OFF.
