Corrupted firmware.... they question is more likely how that would have happened (failed flashme install would be my usual guess).
For the original DS there is PPFlash ( http://www.darkfader.net/ds/ has it) which uses a parallel port on a PC to do the deed and I imagine it would be similar for the DS lite but the token check did not reveal much of interest to confirm its working on a DSlite. On the other hand http://nocash.emubase.de/gbatek.htm#dsfirmwareserialflashmemory would seem to say yes and the protocol is the same so adapting should not be tricky.

Sorry if I'm wrong, but doesn't the WiFi module for the DS lite also contain the firmware? I remember replacing mine to switch a flashed DS lite for an original one to send to Nintendo for warranty over L and R buttons ;) So if I were you, I'd just buy a replacement WiFi module with the original firmware in it. Only around $5 on ebay.
