DS games have been confirmed to look better, anyone who played the original GBA emu knows about the 2 dozen filter settings.
No, it has not been confirmed. In fact, I asked Nintendo via email if DS games look better with the new firmware and they said they didn't do anything related to polishing the looks of DS games, at least, thats what an employee said. And I can confirm that none of my DS games look better.

It seems you have a misunderstanding about the word "confirmed". It's anything but not confirmed when people say they see differences and other people say they see no differences. I trust facts.
Fact 1: I cannot see a slightest difference with any of my 20+ DS games.
Fact 2: An employee from Nintendo told me, that nothing has been done related to optimizing the visuals of DS games.
Fact 3: There are no proper comparison pics around.
'nuff said.

Oh really? Provide me with proper comparison pics from a hardware video grabber, then we can talk.

The best quality is to play ds games is in a DSIXL. Ds games on 3ds are an OK but you have the benefit of playing ds and 3ds games on a single console + the analog stick you want to test.vodoochild81 said:Fascinating discussion guys but I still did not get my question really answered ha. No, they DON'T. Before 2.0, the games looked a tad faded, but are fine. with the update they look JUST THE SAME as they do on the DSi.

By that you mean this thread and your thread, right?lex luthor said:this is the same wherever I see your posts.

I wish Nintendo would just give us some customization options...spinal_cord said:vodoochild81 said:Fascinating discussion guys but I still did not get my question really answered ha. The fact people are arguing what looks better with a firmware update tells me DS games look really bad on a 3ds...
Not really bad, but by default they do look worse. On the DSi, the games are displayed at 1:1 pixel ratio, on the 3DS they are 1.25:1, so the images are stretched and slightly blurred. You can get around this by holding Start or Select while the game loads, which will set the screen to 1:1, however this leaves a black border around the screen. However, there is no menu option to set the default size, so if you prefer the borders, then you have to hold Start/Select every time you load a game.
^What Spiny said. Even though I've seen the shots, they mean nothing. I cannot see any difference. In fact, there is no difference. If Nintendo say they haven't done anything, they have not done anything. Simple.spinal_cord said:dragonkid6 said:tigris said:There are no differences. Unless you have pixel-perfect analysis vision.
No, but we have comparison photos

You can not use those photos to analyse the 3DS up scaling quality for very good reasons -
1. They were taken with a camera, to analyse the graphics you would have to fine a way to 100% accurately dump the display directly to a raw image file, currently impossible with the 3DS.
2. They are photos of two different systems, even if they were the same system, it's obvious that both the camera and 3DS are in different positions, which would effect the lighting of the photo.
3. They are photos of an LCD screen, so even the slightest different in the angle between the screen and the camera would be a large difference in the brightness of the image. You can check this yourself by looking at your system and moving it a little. Especially if you are looking through a lens of some sort.
4. They are not both lined up perfectly, like I said any difference in angle would result in totally different images being produced.
5. It is a well documented fact that you can persuade people of stupid things like this even when they are completely false. You can test this fact yourself by asking something like "ew, what's that smell?" while with a group of friends and some of them will imagine that they smell a foul odour.

Wow. Well if you actually read my posts you'd know that I'm on Spinal's side.lex luthor said:Spinal_cord replies are the most reliable.

[edit]
The 3DS is a great device for playing the newer 3DS games (which look great btw). The gameboy downloads from the eshop are good too. Some DS games that are difficult to control with the d-pad (such as Mario64DS) are easier to control with the O-pad.
If you're only going to play DS games on it though, I wouldn't bother.
