Gaming DS Browser in wifi hotspots

I was reading that the DS Browser will ping a Nintendo address before it does anything else which means it won't work in free hotspots which require you to sign up or agree to terms of service.

Are there hacks which will make this work?

I read somewhere that you can mask the mac address of a laptop to be the same as your DS, log in with that (or go through the screens) and then feel free to jump on with the DS. This is mostly a solution to playing DS games online though I guess, and truly does defeat the purpose of having a DS on the go if you bring along a laptop.
