My roommate's PS5 gives errors when it does anything with a browser, such as signing into Final Fantasy 14.

If she uses her phone as a hotspot between the PS5 and router, the problem goes away.

She's been having to connect to her phone to sign into Final Fantasy 14 and then switch to the router after signing in.

I'm wondering if there is something I need to configure router side to fix the issue. We've tried setting google dns and MTU on the PS5, giving it a static IP on the LAN but it continues to not work.

Playstation support wasn't helpful. I felt like I was talking to an AI which wanted me to forward ports (which are used by http, turn and xmpp servers) to the PS5.

What specific errors are you seeing? There is a chance the error is specific enough to make diagnosing much easier if we know at what specific step the connection fails.

In the mean time a few easy target would be to check that the PS5 isn't restricted in the connections it's allowed to establish, check parental settings, connection time settings, and maybe even online contingency settings for the PS5 / IP.
Since your router has a firewall make sure the firewall treats the PS5 like your PC, and isn't trying to prevent connections out.
If you have forwarded ports on other devices they may conflict with the PS5, an easy test would be to disable those temporarily but I can't imagine that's the problem, as it would break other things for you, too.

If your router has the ability to automatically create port forwarding for specific devices you could enable that for the PS5, but it shouldn't be necessary on modern routers.

Oh, and the usual, what model router do you have, and is the firmware on it up to date? You could search your model online and see if anyone else has encountered the same or similar issues, maybe they were able to fix it and you can just copy their solution.

The router is an ASUS RT-AX89X.
Browsers on Microsoft and Nintendo's consoles work fine.
Everything that doesn't use the web browser is working fine on PS5.

The ports are used by my home server. A client device should never need them forwarded.

You never stated what errors were being encountered on either the router or PS5 side of things. Anyway, a quick Google search of problems with ASUS routers and PS5's, I found that some people have had success disabling AX mode on the ASUS router. Don't know if that pertains to what is happening with you, but it's worth a shot. It's hard to tell what is going on without knowing any of the error messages. Apart from that, have they tried a wired connection to see if it goes away? Or a full factory reset on the router? But yeah, I'd try disabling AX mode first.

Tried wired connection and it didn't go away.

1) Try manually adding the router as the gateway in the DHCP settings
2) Try manually adding a DNS like 1.1.1.1 to the DHCP settings
3) Check if that Trend security thing is disabled
4) Is Upnp enabled?

Years ago I had issues with my PS3 and an Asus router because of some weird DHCP bug.
