"Time ebbs and flows in Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky. Like the recent DS remakes Dragon Quest IX will adopt the time cycle system. As you wander around the overworld the sun rises and sets which changes the look of the world. But, this is more than a cosmetic effect.

Dragon Quest veterans know the towns change at night too. Some NPCs go to sleep and others appear. Dragon Quest IX uses the same system and wide palette of colors like to simulate a real sun. After playing so many brown washed games on consoles it’s refreshing to see colors, lots and lots of bright colors."

I love day-night cycles! I don't know why, but it seems to add to the experience and make it seem more realistic.

The question I'm having is will the day/night cycles be the same as DQ8 where it's takes about 10-15 mins to change between the two. Or is this day/night cycle based on the DS internal clock like the Pokemon games.

I'm just guessing, but I'm willing to bet that it will be short intervals between day-night, like Dragon Quest 4.

I loved having day in night in the other DQ games that had it. Felt like I was doing something special finding all the strange people that only came out at night. Can't wait for this to come out.

Me too, this fires up my love for the Dragon Quest games coming to the DS

slightly off topic, but are the characters sprites or models?
From what I know, they are supposed to be models!

Ah cool. I thought I had heard something about them using sprites, kinda glad they aren't. The new Tales game kinda irritates me by using the 2d sprites on the 3d background; especially after innocence was all 3d. Though I wouldn't mind the reverse. I had the same problem (more of a problem actually) with dungeon explorers. The 3d environments looked like crap, and so did the sprites. They could have easily use stylized low poly models (Cause of the massive amount of enemies sometimes) for characters instead of those...blobby undetailed things they called sprites.
