Hacking Dragon Quest 5 + Cheat = White screen

Title says it. When I activate any cheat on my R4 SDHC I'll get a white screen. Is this only on R4 or is this a common problem with Dragon Quest 5 itself?

Well I once used a 2x EXP cheat because I kept dying and needed to become stronger, and I once used a language cheat to test if the white screen came with every cheat activated. Both individually activated
