Now before anything, i am NOT asking were i can get illegal copies of games! i just have a question about legality.

in 2005 i purchased a gamefor my pc. recently, when i was moving houses, i found that game again. unfortunately, it is missing the first disk, so i have no way of installing it on my computer. so, i wondering if its illegal for me to go to some site and pirate a copy of this game?

There's just one myth on there I disagree with.
"I'm just a random guy on a forum. They'll never get me."

If you cover your tracks well enough, they can't sue you if they can't catch you.
Of course, who can cover their tracks completely in this day and age?

A usenet or FTP can do that pretty well from what I hear.

Technically it's illegal, though some might argue that morally it's not.

I myself would most likely just acquire the game illegally if I had purchased on a previous occasion and lost the installer disc.

Someone in the piracy thread linked above said that they emailed a dev directly and asked if they could download a missing disc since they bought it. The company said go ahead. Who knows when that took place though. It just depends if the dev gives a shit or not. Though yeah 99% of the time it's illegal.

Not 99% of the time, it is 100% of the time illegal to download some else's copy of a game. They own (the license to) the game, but not to distribute the game. By downloading, you're part of the crime. Even if you own (the license to) your own copy of the game.

I could keep going, but that's what Rydian is for <3
