I'm new here. One of the stickies above says you can't downgrade the Psp 3000 since it can't run below 6.20 or something like that, but some websites say you can downgrade the Psp 3000 to firmware versions down to 5.00 or lower. Can you downgrade a Psp 3000 to run a permanent CFW, and if you can, how?

Basically 6.20 CFW had some sort of a permanent patch which is sort of like a permanent CFW. There is no point in downgrading to any firmware below 6.20 as the 3000 never had a permament CFW below that firmware. Though you should be careful as some 3000s cannot be downgraded to 6.20 as their factory firmwares were higher than that.

What you should do is download this: http://www.mediafire.com/download/pb9gccudpf8okc1/PSPIDENT_075_21-10-2011.zip

Extract the zip file and place the PSPIDENT folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME.

This homebrew will tell you whether your PSP can be downgraded to 6.20 or not.

Of course yes.

To the first question, there is no need to downgrade. Just get the lcfw ME and you are set.
k, thanks.

and, is it bad i spent money on a psp to avoid the 'Why wont gateway work on my 9.8 3ds?'
I may check back there once in a while for a good chuckle, though. ;)

You can force a PSP below its factory firmware, but you'll run into a lot of instability and issues, maybe even brick it. I'd just go with a temporary CFW or HEN, like LME. It's not that inconvenient and will probably do everything you want it to.
