Don't buy a gateway, use a cfw that it's free. And yes, you can downgrade.

Gateway is outclassed in every aspect by CFW or even a sky3ds+ if you wanna just play roms

Currently at the moment every 3DS on any firmware is downgradeable (But if you are on higher firmwares you would need ideally the Cubic Ninja Cartridge to run the initial exploit) N3DS is possible as well but slightly more risky.

I've mine with the homebrew channel (or something that I boot pressing the L button on console start) but I couldn't play anything without RXTools. To install that, I needed to downgrade my console via hardware.

Was a new exploit discovered? Can you send me the tutorial link here, if exists?
