Hacking Don't know what to do

So got a second hand 3ds as my xl was on 9.4.

The one i have got is 8.0 so need some help on what to do.

I am aware i can use CFW so i dont need to use Gateway card for playing homebrew and roms (not asking for them).

so needing some help with

a) do i need to upgrade to a certain software
b) what cfw should i use

Also can i use online facility's with cfw like on pokemon games

Downgrade it to 4.5 using Gateway's launcher (you don't need the GW card to do this), use rxTools to get emuNAND 9.8, and since you would be on 4.5 you could install the mset exploit, so that you can launch emuNAND offline by simply going to Settings -> Profile -> Nintendo DS Profile. Cheers.
