Yes I have an Orig 3ds and have updated my rxTools emunand to 10.4 with no problems other than my boot rate has dropped from working 9 times out of 10 to about 7 out of ten attempts

There are some downsides to updating to 10.4 (especially sysNAND), one of which is inability to run IronHax (https://twitter.com/smealum/status/689250437006901249).

Is it safe to update to 10.4 rxtools on n3ds? Officially it can't right, but I've seen people successfully run it. If you can, what do I lose?

yes you can update it, 10.4 working perfectly with RXTOOLS OLD 3DS and this is the video that i took to share with you, what I liked in this new update that the errors during download from shop or updates never happened again with this new version.

Yes I can confirm that you can update your emunand. I think, ReiNAND can now up to 10.4 . I'm not totally sure but RxTool works fine on 10.4

when i dont like 10.4 for example because of homebrew issues. its all theoretically

10.4 has zero homebrew issues

Make an emunand backup with Emunand9 or decrypt9, you can always just restore that and you will be on your old emunand. If you format Emunand again it will be the same version as your sysnand so probably 9.2
