Nintendo don't like you importing any more than Sony do. They just don't benefit from it enough.
The reason Sony took down Lik-sang was because of some alleged bullshit of charge plug safety, because one charge plug for one region won't work in another, or may malfunction with the wrong adapter.
Even though Lik-sang would've made plenty clear about this and provided much information and products for adapting these foreign charge plugs.

It's just idle speculation but another reason why Nintendo would be enforcing region protection this time around would be another anti-piracy measure.
Just something else to get in the way if the 3DS ever manages to be hacked

Like Sony's Vita CMA? that makes it inconvenient but still makes it easy to get overseas games.

So they say, smells like bull shit to me, though. Sony has a reputation for saying stuff that they want to make people think they did the right thing.

Lik Sang strongly disagrees with Sony's opinion that their customers need this kind of protection and pointed out that PSP consoles shipped from Lik-Sang contained genuine Sony 100V-240V AC Adapters that carry CE and other safety marks and are compatible world wide. All PSP consoles were in conformity with all EU and UK consumer safety regulations.

Yeah, this thought had crossed my mind too, although I'm not quite sure how it might contribute to preventing piracy. I guess it would slow down flash cart developers if they figured out a way to mimic games, since they'd need to mimic the game in each region. I noticed one of the AceKard firmwares mimicked a Japanese game, if they'd had region protection back then that might not have been a viable solution.

But saying that doesn't make the situation any better. The 3ds is still region locked and so far no effort has been made to bypass it so people don't need 2 consoles to get all the games they want.

Saying that doesn't make the situation any better either :ha: No effort can be made until a hack is available and we can dig into how region locking works properly.

Thats gonna take a while :D

Still I find it hard to believe nintendo chose to do this in the first place. I know it sounds stupid after its been released for over a year now but seriously, what the hell were they thinking.

i think it is really stupid that the dsi dsixl and 3ds turned into nazis
You win an award for funniest misuse of the words Nazis.
Still proves a point.
So the 3DS caused the holocaust? It doesn't prove a point at all its just another -Interwebzor missusing words they really don't understand. Plus this isn't half as bad as is making over it. Pretty much every AAA title has been confirmed for here so what's the big deal? And all you MH fans are stupid if you don't think Capcom is going tp to localize a REMAKE of a game that was made such a big deal of in NA. Calm down and get over that fact that you wont be able to import. Pretty much every CONSOLE made in the last 2 gens its just now its a handheld. DEAL WIT IT.

Yes your right that the PS3, xbox 360, DS and PSP was region locked so I couldn't have imported any RPGs from Japan and have played it on it, oh wait hold on thats wrong. It was the Wii, PS2 and the original Xbox so by that logic I guess SONY and MS actually learned something and made an effort to change while nintendo become more restrictive and stupid.

So its not like I hear Love Plus or any other Japanese game that is a lot more fun playing is coming to the west anytime soon so that point is also moot, look at the DS and look at the games that haven't made it to the west and it will never make it there, same with the PSP. Trying to rationalize region locking as something good rather than just a poor marketing strategy that will cause backlash amongst gamers because we are the ones to suffer not nintendo plus when we buy a game for the 3DS nintendo gets the profits either way so I don't see why if I live in australia and buy from Japan that nintendo suffers.

Im not trying to send the message that its good, im trying to say that its there and you should just get used to it, we ALL know Nintendo, and we ALL know no matter what we all say, they will not un-lock the regions unless the 3DS REALLY starts suffering from it. Besides the 3DS doesnt even have any good JRPGs so what are you talking about importing them for? (and also my mistake with the "every" console thing, I swore the 360 and PS3 were locked)

We all know that and we all know the only way to get rid of it is for hackers to fully hack the 3DS because nintendo doesn't really give a shit what their consumers really think. Its an example dude but the point is still there, there are games that will never ever be released in the west for various reasons but I think its mainly because of conservatism (yes i'm aware that Japan is also very conservative but in a different way than in the US and UK etc) and us in the west are just meant to miss out? Sorry but nintendo profits where ever we buy their products in the US, UK or Japan so I don't or rather I can't see why they chose to region lock it in the first place.

And the 360 it is left up to the publisher while the Sony made sure the PS3 games were not region locked.

Eh, Oh well, whats done is done. (Also I didnt realize you were in Austraila before you, guy do take a lot of bullshit from them so I see where your coming from)

Its alright dude. Most companies treat AUS like shit anyway so alot of gamers here are used to it but some like me want better treatment.

Uh, by looking at the link ,the Lik-Sang thing had to do with the fact it was selling Mod Chips, not region free stuff
Obviously, your attention span isn't all too good and you only read the first few paragraphs. Lik-Sang had an injunction stopping them from selling mod chips, but became very popular for selling legitimate products afterwards. It wasn't until 2006 that they went out of business after Sony sued them for selling the PSP to UK consumers before the UK launch.

But that event is just the same as now when the Vita launched in Japan and people imported it to their country long before it was released there from online stores.

Of course, they'd be hard pressed to stop individuals from importing consoles ahead of release. But Lik-Sang were selling a lot and Sony didn't like it. I remember being an affiliate with Lik-Sang at the time and I made enough store credit to buy a Pink DS Phat just from linking to the PSP pre-order page with my signature on various forums. Luckily I spent it before they went out of business

Ah so for example if I opened a store and when the PS4 gets released in Japan I start selling it in the US and UK Sony would come after me for no real reason apart from me selling a new console which dedicated gamers would probables already have.

I doubt "dedicated gamers" would buy a Japanese console instead of waiting. Maybe you meant to use a different word.
