For Fuck's sake, not "Jap," it's Japanese. Jap is both an offensive racial slur and retarded to say.

I don't see why its offensive, lots of nationalities are shortened, ie "brit" for British.

You probably don't mind calling black people the "N" word, either? [IMG]

Oh come on, it's on a totally different dimension. The N word is seen offensive by black people too since it's got a way deeper history behind of slavery and racial exploitation. However the J word isn't even a real racial slur, it's just that moralist idiots seem to want to see everything as something bad and racist, even if there's not any. Japanese people don't see anything racist in it, only maybe (as someone said) Americanized Japanese people, and that's because not of the history behind the word or because they feel disrespected. It's just because they have to whine about something because they can't be integrated into the occidental society as much as they'd like to.
Stop being so moralist and look for religious/racist slurs in everything posted by other. I assure you it's clearly visible if somebody wants to offend someone else, everything else is just being paranoid.

Since this is probably more a thing of ignorance (I can't think of any other words to use) than anything else, I won't be trashing any posts in this case as I feel it'd be better for those reading to learn that saying the word "jap" can be considered offensive (another example being the use of the work "paki").

If a significant number of people find any particular word to be distasteful and offensive then I'd hope that it'd make readers and the OP think twice before using it again (or at the very least use it again on this site). There's no need to be so defensive over a term that you used had caused offense. As long as it wasn't intentional a simple apology would suffice (which we haven't even given the OP the opportunity to do).

As Morgawr said, other "racist" remarks such as the N word have been exposed to a greater number of people and therefore is more of a thing of stupidity above all else for them to not realise that it shouldn't be used in public places unnecessarily.

With that said, please stay on topic in regards to the OP's question, create a new thread about this or don't reply in the thread.

[IMG] Not at all, dude. I'm not one to pick fights or try to incite folks to anger just to be a prick, but I also don't like to see people pretend to be ignorant about racist comments. I'm not accusing you in particular, but there are some posts within this thread that are asinine in their refusal to recognize the well-known fact that using the term "Jap" is blatantly racist. If they still choose to use the term, it's their right, I suppose. Equally, it's our right (those of us who find it offensive) to call them out on it. Those folks who don't know their history, might want to read up a bit. But "Ameris" and "Gers" and any of those other moronic terms that someone else mentioned don't have the same history that the derogatory use of Japanese does. Besides, it's been touched upon plenty on this site, so I find it hard to believe that folks are still claiming ignorance regarding this issue. And to the guy who came up with all those great plays on nationality, try doing that with Nigerian. Let us know if no one finds it offensive.
