Do you like your job? Why?

so, I noticed there is a wide range of ages for the members here. do you like your work and why? I like my job because I work solo often and work each job at my pace. Which keeps me at peace. Each job is different and I'm always learning. I've been fixing phone/dsl/t1/uverse services for many years now and the last few years I started working in a new area. I went from the city to the mountains, with some city. The customers and people I run in to keep me on my toes. I take pride in my work and try to take the time to get it right the first time. My boss gives me a hard time (jokingly) about what a nice guy I am. I've earned his trust and am qualified to work on everything. I don't make trouble for him and I get to work what I want, usually.

What do you guys/girls do, er, do you like your job? Why?

Pizza delivery is a kick ass job, especially for a Highschool/College Student. 10$ an hour plus another 5-10$ an hour in tips, along with being able to drive around and listen to music in a company car with almost no regulations or boss breathing down your neck. Just make sure you have a GPS or know your town like the back of your hand.

I work in a grocery store for many years now. Been doing well there, and it's pretty close to where I live. I have nothing to complain about it.

My job is ok. While it pays the bills just fine there is no room for growth since the company is so small. The only reason I'm still there is due to how close it is to my home and school. Once I'm done with my schooling I will be gone like the wind.

A grocery store is fun. I did that for almost 2 years. Just be sure to know where the extra whipped cream is around the holidays. I liked bagging the groceries and helping girls out to their car. I got a few numbers that way. Really, I like to help people.

Yes, working and schooling is difficult. You can spread yourself thin very easy. Keep your head up with some of your favorite music. Music heals all.

The funny thing about working at Walmart is that it's entirely dependent on where the Walmart is located and the population. Usually the bigger the city the worse it is. For instance people at my Small College town Walmart in South Dakota are incredibly helpful and love their job, whereas people in the bigger cities hate working there and are ridiculously understaffed.

Small city here. Constant stress, sucks, ex hates me, it's been a few years and she's still ignoring me, probably with someone else, customers are ass. I have to put on a happy face and cover my hatred for my life with a false smile. It's a wonderful place to work. That 10% discount tho. /s

Started recently as a mailman, so far its been fun. Not working cityside so I can wear whatever I want and if finish early I get paid for all the extra hours that they expect you to do. GPS is still a must if your doing a new route for the first time.

This pointless/make work/only there so the manager feels important for having more people under them job thing is of interest to me this last month or so. I had long been aware of such things but it seems it was time to consider the numbers and mechanisms involved. Having now seen the US battle to try to get something resembling healthcare I do look forward to them trying to sort a basic wage for those that automation relieves even of the make work stuff.

Anyway as a generally talentless layabout I went self employed rather than being unemployed. Occasionally I spend a couple of days in an office playing with computers for people which is less fun than being in the workshop or out in the field. Otherwise yeah I build things, fix things and figure out how things work which is what I would be doing/what I do find myself doing otherwise.

Not really. I despise my coworkers. They are all horrible and stupid. I'm tired of pointless pleasantries when basically everyone hates each other deeply. Plus I work about 12 or more hours a day....so there's that too.

I'm a teacher, and I love my job. My students are great, my coworkers are great, I get paid more than enough, and I get a lot of time off too.

Teachers don't get enough pay/credit/respect. You've got a big heart to take that on.

Smile72, that's rough working that much. It really sucks the life from the job. In the winter, we get mandatory overtime, sometimes for days/weeks in a row. That's 6 days a week 10 hours a day. It doesn't help that there is that animosity with your coworkers

I work overnights as part of my store's Modular Change Team, basically we move stuff around at night to piss people off. I actually quite like the job, I am just out of the way doing my own thing and working with people I enjoy working with. I also like working overnights because I am not a very social person and I tend to get easily overwhelmed by people, so a job with as little human interaction is what I need. I have some things to complain about, but it's a lot better than when I was manager. Plus $15.27 an hour with fixed 40 hour weeks isn't bad either.
Although sometimes I feel like the Temp and my homebrew testing is my second job

I'm a developer in a government department. I loathe my boss, he has such a condescending voice and attitude, and I don't think much of any of my colleagues except one guy who knows what he is doing and always has time for me when I have questions. I hate going into work now. My previous team was awesome, I respected the hell out of my boss and really liked him and looked up to him, and my colleagues were really cool. We had breakfast together most Friday mornings and could joke around during the day. But oh well, it's a very big place and chances are my next team will be better.

Nope. I hate it. It sucks the life out of me and when I get home I don't have the motivation or energy to get stuck into my hobbies and passions. I can only pray that one day I'll win the lottery and not have to worry about money and being imprisoned for 40 hours a week.
