Hacking Do we need 3DS Flashcards?

DSi Mode is here!! -- but missing NAND, SD read/write after slot-1 access, dsi-ware decryption, etc.

Yeah, i´ve talked with many people around the world (Germany, USA, london, etc).

So, my Question: Do we need 3DS "hacking"?

I mean, now there is a DSi flashcard. With Camera, Sd Slot, and Full DSi ram functions.
And the 3D at the 3DS is set by a manual Slider at the right side.

Perhaps there isn a "3DS-Mode"?^^

if you mean that the hacked DSI Mode may get access to the two CPU Cores and the PICA GPU, I highly doubt it. I'm sure, that Nintendo know what to do for protecting, at least this time - like Sony did for ps3 which got just hacked after 5 years - their new Console, the old system was just a mess and had almost no protection...yea, yea, I know, hackers can hack everything...we will see. I wonder if they still use the same Cartridges, as far as I remember they had 1 year ago a new patent for a card looking like a PCEngine thing.

wat

Do you honestly think that a single 133Mhz cpu can produce the graphics that the 3DS has demonstrated?

(133Mhz+33Mhz+JunkGPU) /= (266Mhz+266Mhz+AwesomeGPU)

Do you honestly think that Nintendo would leave 3DS mode accessible in DSi mode?

Nintendo /= Dumb

mmm... i think we will need to buy new flashcards but it will be possible cuz if nintendo would be able to make the 3ds that it wont work with flash cards then nintendo would have already released it already as an update for the dsi to stop carts from working ... but i think alot more games wont be working.....

Nothing's for sure, but I'm with those who believe the 3DS will be hacked through the SD slot, rather than a flashcart. I'd only laugh if an exploit came in Ocarina of Time, much like the Twilight hack on the Wii. With steady firmware updates, and a focus on blocking flashcarts, the 3DS might fall into the same hacking category as the Wii.

Personally, I'd rather go the flashcart way, if it means no risk to my 3DS (bricking). However, if hacking the 3DS via SD becomes a reality, it has many benefits as well.

In the end, if the 3DS never gets hacked, I'll still buy the system and games with no problem at all. But much like the current scene, if hacking becomes a reality, then I'll be right on board.

The PS3 was released just over 4 years ago.

Umm the last 2 updates for the DSi blocked flashcarts.

the dsi hack has access to the faster cpu clock, ram, camera, and sd slot. however, nothing can run from the sd slot after any code has run from slot-1. so read/write to the sd slot won't happen, its impossible. what they need is to unlock the nand, something that hasen't happened yet. dsi-ware won't happen until they can decrypt it and gain access to the nand. if its not decrypted, what remains is running it off the sdslot (instead of the nand) and even that doesn't look like it will happen.

so in the end you are going to shell out $50 for the ievo in the hopes that someone makes homebrew that makes use of the extra features. many have lost faith in cyclods, after their vanishing act, and i feel that to restore that faith they need to offer something a bit more or bring down the price. as of right now this cart is nothing more than a cyclods with the ability to run dsi exclusive homebrew.

a 3ds kit is a long way off if they haven't yet unlocked the potential of the dsi. and yes, people will try from day one to hack the 3ds. some for the challenge, some for the fame, others because they do not want to pay for games, and the rest will want it for homebrew. i hope for 3ds homebrew, thats all i want to see. i'm fine with paying for games.

This.

If the possibility were to emerge that someone unlocked the NAND, then they could probably hack the 3DS.

But no one's gonna bother, with the 3DS round the corner.

And it's highly unlikely someone can.

As I'm sure you all know, the 3DS brings 2 revolutions to the market, 3D without glasses...

...and it's unprecedented security.

For all we know, you could buy a 3DS flashcart on the day it comes out, and the next day, as soon as you load up your flashcart, it downloads an update that Ninty made to block your flashcart, and BOOM.

Your 3DS's bricked.

The only way we will get a flashcart working on the 3DS is if we find a way to block the automatic updates.

But there's always a possibility of not connecting it to Wi-Fi, unless there's a goddamn 3G chip in there.

3G chip? I sure hope so.....if we managed to hack the 3ds and it does have one that would be fun...mobile skype anyone?

True, but with the said 3G chip, if there's one in there, that would mean Ninty can force you to update without connecting to Wi-Fi.

Well the 3DS will need to be hacked. I think it may be hacked the Wii way with something like bannerbomb or a game hack to run "bannerbomb portable"

OR

Since the 3D Slider is manual, there might be hope for hackers now that DSi mode was hacked.

i'm assuming the dsi hack is not compatible with the 3ds. otherwise why would cyclods announce a working flash kit before the 3ds launch? nintendo can now fix any mistakes and the next run of the 3ds will be secured.

Maybe its just a matter of blocking updates before they get a chance to do that...if we get control of that chip we can make it reject updates....

Worse case scenario wrap your 3ds in tinfoil then store it in a lead safe until a hack is found

I'll answer this one differently. We don't need a 3DS flashcart. Not because the ones on the market suffice, but because both the 3DS and DSi could have been hacked without one in the first place.

3DS and DSi have a SD slot and that's all you would need to play your games on. My support is for a 3DS hack more in line with PS3/Wii hacks of modifying the firmware, and using existing storage capabilities, without the need of a flashcart.

It would be possible to craft a custom fw that can run games off the SD slot, then pass it to the 3DS as a phony firmware update. All one needs is a wireless router, and the 3DS' DNS set to one's own PC on the router LAN, such as 192.168.0.2, and the PC could be running the hack. The PC then would spoof the official nintendo DNS and trick the 3DS to connect to it thinking it's the official nintendo WFC and send the update.

This still requires hacking the 3DS encryption and possibly digital signatures aswell in order to make the update look legit.
