Disco Elysium, the detective RPG game from indie studio ZA/UM, has received a GameBoy edition. Yes, you read that right: Disco Elysium is playable on the original GameBoy; at least the first part. This demake "port" was developed by Colin Brannan using GB Studio, complete with the retro aesthetic.

You can try it out now online or download the ROM to play on an actual GameBoy or a device that supports ROMs. I tried it on the Anbernic RG350P and it's perfectly playable, although somewhat lacking in sound.

If you're wondering whether it'll receive a C&D from Studio ZA/UM, then rest assured that it's not likely the case. The demake actually received the thumbs up from the company which actually shared the news in a press release, writing that "we think this 90s throwback is pretty cool!"

dragon quest 11 had a demake in it didn't it? switching from the 3d version to 2d, very cool idea.

anyway, I don't like how the guy didn't bother to add an apostrophe in the text:
"Hello Im..."
That's not the worst part. The font is weird, it's like it's written "Hello, IM KiM" but all the other text looks fine

There was an official "Demastered" of The Mummy game by WayForward
Even though is in the title, mentioning it like a demake is kinda confusing, it is a original licensed game from the movie which uses style and design similar to Metroidvanias in 16 bit 2D, but being based on the remake of the movie in a downgraded way, meaning it is a demake of the movie, there is no "contemporary" version of the game it tried to replicate in a downgraded manner.

Tested on a GB classic with EZ Flash Jr. Looks great, very responsive. I kinda miss a little bit of music tho.

EDIT: I got time to play it and it's severely unfinished but the story is thrilling, no bugs encountered on the playthrough everything is super smooth. It lacks a little bit of guidance to the player on how the game works but for me that's the charm on oldie games. Learning to play is part of the game.
