If you're talking about the existence of this subforum, the simple answer is ‘If it didn't exist, the discussion would be taken to other subforums.’ At least, with a dedicated subforum for it, you can hide the subforum for yourself so you'll never have to see it.
That's not the point. It divides the community. There are plenty of forums on the internet for politics. Go to a bird watching forum and start talking about the holocaust, see how many friends you make.
I don't think the powers that be care much for suppression of speech. At least by relegating it to a subsection of the forum, you can hide it from view. That's what I've done and my experience is better for it.

Every title should consist of an unbiased description of an event followed by a source, ideally in the title and the body of the post. Threads that do not follow this framework are not compliant and whether they’re acted upon or not depends on whether they have the potential to generate interesting discussion. As it stands, staff reserves the right to edit any such threads, or even close them altogether if they do not meet this requirement.
Considering your threads in the Politics section usually consist of one sentence with no attribution you should be the last person complaining about occasional leniency. Review your own output before criticising that of others, and if you do see non-factual threads, you know where the Report button is - you use it often enough.

They do. I like to make my own judgements however, and not to rely on what others say, unless they're credible experts. If I'm wrong, I should be wrong on my two feet, not just parroting uncritically what another person said.
most people here are fine with people speaking their mind on this forum. even if there is disagreement their posts are still their posts imo. this site is awesome for gaming discussion. its people like you who come in and start talking polititics and then get out ur little book and start writing down names so you can snitch on them and attack them that is the problem.
