Homebrew Disadvantages for having a CFW?

Beacause it simply is not "bad", at all, and you may be misleading others into thinking it is.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Also, if anyone is mislead by that then they seriously need to learn to perceive irony. It's obviously a non-issue. If you're that big of a drooling mouth breather then I don't understand how you would have even made it here.

There is probably only one disadvantage, don't ever expect any support Service from nintendo if something goes wrong. :p

I said "don't expect" but still worth a try if you're lucky. ;)

What? I am quite surprised at your hostility. Irony? Sarcasm? Do you think they are always obvious, especially when this is TEXT, not SPEECH? You're being hostile, for no reason. You *should* know that GBATemp has a significant number of people who don't know much about the scene and WILL take your words literally. Not to mention, besides the fact that irony is often difficult to perceive in written text, there ARE those who'd say such things in a literal fashion here, so it wouldn't be difficult for me to think you were speaking in a serious way.

Maybe the installation process, it can be risky, but if you follow the tutorials it should be safe, other than that, enjoy your ganes

meh, it's not that risky nowadays. 99.99% of the bricks come from either skipping instructions or using Gateway and updating SysNAND x.x

The uncertainty of whether Nintendo will finally be able to patch it out with the next system update, and wait times for CFW updates. There's also pros and cons to certain hacks, but A9LH+Luma is (from a technical stand-point) pure positive.

That uncertainty.... is not really a con, as far as I can see. Especially since Nintendo seems not to care. I mean, they could've killed RXTools and hardmod/DSiWare downgrades ages ago.

- can take long to install if not entirely familiar with the workings of the 3DS, most of the wait time is having to make backups
- could be unnecessary if you just plan to play 3DS games only and no other homebrew tools, could install menuhax with an emuNAND setup which is much faster to setup just to play 3DS games

Purely subjective but some people feel that your 3DS is "ruined" since it is no longer stock and operates differently from its original use. The bootup and menu is so seemless its a non issue to people that dont have OCD.

Doesn't loading a CFW affect the 3D effect? I could have sworn noticing more ghosting after I started using CFW. Or is that only with the older entrypoints, and A9LH fixes it?

That was outdated cfw like rxtools and stuff. Up to date cfws like luma and corbenik don't have this issue

The ridiculously long CIA installation times.
I wouldn't wouldn't really call it a "disadvantage", but definitely something annoying to be aware of.
Especially if you used to have Gateway, where you just popped the .3ds/.3dz files in your microSD.

It's not thaaaat long... I mean, we can bear with it

There is, with CFW U can get any games even the ones leaked before official release date, play them online and get banned...

In fairness, those who are saying that having to wait for updates isn't a downside - it is, but it is a tolerable one.

The only other downside I can think of is the effort of undoing anything if you had to attend an event that would check for this type of thing (e.g. - VGC Pokemon tournament).

How is it a downside? The vast majority of times, updates don't bring anything extremely important to the table.

Having SDless A9LH + Luma, there basically is no downside, people saying you have to wait for CFW updates, ya don't really, your 3ds will work whether it gets a cfw update or not.
As long as Nintendo doesn't bring out updates specifically targeted against cfw and/or a9lh, and start pulling new tricks out from their hats, there isn't really a need to ever update your cfw aside from the occasional bug fix.
Long story short, no downsides, only upsides.

The only thing that comes to mind, is not being able to play DsiWare, GBA, or GBC games without having to work through additional steps of installation.
(At least, that's my opinion. Please correct me if I'm work)
Also, having to re-add all of your friends back. xD

That is no longer necessary, if you use rxtools, or even better, Luma, it'll have done those steps for you.
Besides, unless you're a 3ds ambassador, there's no way you'd be able to play gba games legit to begin with.
