lol, also i noticed themanuel is talking about DML...the whole discussion started with someone talking about DM...

So the fact that he based his conclusion on testing everything with DML is a bit useless.

I installed Dios Mios Lite v2.2 and tried to load games via usb using CFG usb loader. It gave me an error saying there's not enough space on my SD card. Why do I need space on my SD card to launch a game from my usb? o.0
It probably thinks you have DML and it's trying to transfer the game from USB to SD so that it can run.
Check the loader's options and paths to make sure it knows you want to launch from USB.

Lol the problem was that I DID use DML and not DM. Stupid me. Got it working now, thanks !

lol been there my friend XD

I personally prefer images that are stripped of dummy data as the can be so much smaller (we know games like animal crossing is only >30MB) so why do we choose to take up 1.45GB on our drives? Just like on my PC, I don't like it clobbered with junk or dummy data that doesn't work for me. Even on my Mac I ran appzapper for years to strip the PPC code away from the universal binaries and cleared up lots of room.. I guess the way I see it is RID the junk, I also know though that I can't do this with many of the titles on other loader/emulator/players as they obviously use whatever is within this structure or data to properly work so I have to keep 1:1 if I want to use them.

For this reason and the reason of widescreen and pad hook, I choose DIOS MIOS w/ compressed images to satisfy 90% of my NGC gaming - while not having to buy 100 memory cards or Hugh HDD's as many countries are in recession or hurt :( so it just feels right trying to save where I can..

Actually, it looks like while the first four tests he posted were his original DML benchmarks, the last two were DM and it had similar results.

Sorry i have to rectify that then, let me say it this way: i don't see any tests done with uncompressed ISO's on HDD, just a mention of real NGC Discs.

True, the mention of DiscEX doesn't really let you know if it's compressed or not.

That's true, in the sense that I've never tested an ISO that has not been processed with either, DiscEx or GCReEx. However, I keep 1:1 backups of my GCN games so I will do that test when I find some time. However, I don't expect to see any difference. Despite the terminology used in the DM google code page, I suspect the discex.exe -c command doesn't really compress anything, it just strips the garbage data from the ISO. I don't think it is compression as you would compress a file with 7-zip, but it's worth taking a look.

Yeah, I don't think it would make that much difference either
"compressed" is a far to generally used term. I think in this case, a more specific term would be "trimmed" since it's just getting rid of all the "garbage information" (padding).
The "padding" was added in the first place because to fill up the center of the disk and therefore move the REAL files nearer to the edge of the disk where read times are faster.
If you were to burn a trimmed image to a disk it WOULD make the load times slower compared to the un-trimmed version because the information's now in a slower part of the disk.
With DM(L), moving it to a different part of the disk IMAGE (which could physically be ANYWHERE on the SD or HDD) doesn't really change anything.

I think Dolphin is the only program that actually compresses the disk images in the way that a RAR or ZIP file would.

Hello all !

I have issues with some savegames I want to use with NMM on DM. I have a discussion with Suloku, one of the creators of GCMM and CTR-GCS (GCI extraction softs), who send me to the DML tread.
I tried with MGS Twin Snakes (Pal fr), and it did not work. It appears that the game also refuse to save with NMM on Dios Mios, so i could not create a save with it. I have 4 games saved on my memory card, when i extract them with ctr or gcmm i have 4 files. When i convert them with gci2nmm that makes me 4 files and 1 header. Or when i launch MGS, and i load my game, there is only 1 game recognized in spite of the 4.

I send you copies of my files, maybe you can see what's happening : MGSTSSaves.zip - 26 KB

I have also an issue with TimeSplitters 3 (Pal fr), the same, it recognizes only one of my three gamesave. I suppose it's difficult when you have a game with many users...

Thank you for your help, i'll keep you updated if i see other games with this issue.

Can anyone confirm if Soul Calibur II works for you in GCReEx format?
I'm getting a black screen here.

UPDATE:
It would still be nice if someone can check but it started to work now for me.
First I transferred a copy of the game to my card using DiscEx and had both failing upon launch, just the same.
Then I moved the folder with the GCReEx extracted files to a separate location to make sure I was only running the DiscEx version and it worked.
After that, I swapped them again so that I'm now running the GCReEx version as before and that is working fine too.
I have no clue what went on there but this game had not given me any trouble in the past.

I've tried asking in the Back Up Loaders subsection, but no one replied. I'll ask here just in case.

Recently whenever I play a GameCube backup from DIOS MIOS 2.2 (with a USB drive), sometimes the Wii shuts down. This happens in the middle of gameplay (that means I can get past the splash screen), or whenever the Wii needs to access the USB drive.
This happened with two games:
Doubutsu no Mori e+ (JAP)
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (USA)

My USB stick is an 8GB SanDisk Cruzer. I use it to backup both GCN and Wii games. It can run Wii games perfectly fine, but I'm having problems with GCN games.

I'm really not sure how to fix this. I'm using CFGr46 (Configurable USB Loader).

While I was running a GameCube backup, I unplugged the USB disk, and then a few seconds the Wii turns off.

This means that while the Wii is trying to access the USB disk, it can't, making the Wii shut down. The USB disk is in the list of approved HDDs, and it works perfectly fine with Wii games.

Do I have to wait until another update of DIOS MIOS for it to fix this problem?

The one I have currently, the Sandisk Cruzer, replaced my other broken USB device. It was an 8GB Dane-Elec disk, and it worked perfectly fine for all of my GC backups. Everything went smoothly.

When it broke, I had to use my phone to replace it, but it only worked with Wii backups, not GameCube backups (It appears in CFG's menu, but running the backups doesn't work). I got the Sandisk USB so I could play GC backups, but only works for a short time until it shuts down.

If it is an issue of compatibility, you might be out of luck unless, as you said, a future update fixes it.

Well, it looks like Soul Calibur II in GCReEx format is back to not working (see a couple of posts above).
So far, I'm having trouble with the following games:
- Soul Calibur II
- DDR Mario Mix

Would someone that has his/her games in FST format (extracted with GCReEx) please verify if these games run, rather than showing a black screen after the DM logo?

Hmm... Alright, thanks for the reply :) It's just strange how it's on the DIOS MIOS Compatibility List, but it's not really working for me.

Does the type of backup loader affect how DIOS MIOS runs GCN backups?
